We just held our first toddler party on Sunday. I am really proud of myself. It was low-fi and everyone had a great time. My son loved it.

3 - 3.30 arrive
3.30 - 4 treasure hunt (treasure were lollies, play dough, bubbles, water baloons, balloon helicopters, masks.
4.00 cake (then grandparents and adult family could leave)
4.15-4.45 Water balloon fight. (time for sugar to wear off)
5. hot dogs and pizza scrolls for kids.
5.15 pass the parcel and then chicken skewers for the parents
5.30-6 home time. gave families a large takeaway containers of pasta salad to take home. Kids took their prizes home in noodle boxes.

This year I made the cake, the $40 i saved I spent on dinner for guests. Yes,$40 or more for an iced and personalised cake in Australia!

At the local Galleria last week I noticed all the cafe/juice bars are selling choc-peanut protein balls. These sound a lot nicer!.

Yes, it's Good Reads. I just line up my Want To Read List (obtained from reviews, word of mouth, blogs). When I finish a book I'll mark it as read and post it to my Facebook.

This is the best system yet and I always have something I'm excited about reading.

One problem is that we have the ceiling fan on during summer and the pictures can flap around.

I started doing this on the containers my kids take to school. I also use it for temp. baby proofing (stick cupboards and the fridge shut).

Lately I've been writing reminders on masking tape and sticking it to the front of the relevant backpack/bag. So on Monday morning I don't forget money/permission slips etc. This works well to remind my hubby when he does the school run.

Agreed :-) So much pressure to turn our 'photo ready' nursery, kids, cup cakes...

Gift wrapping station? Am pretty confident we don't have these in Australia (not at home anyway, and only at Christmas in the mall). I have one roll of brown paper. When giving a gift I get my kids to decorate the paper and make a pom pom out of yarn. This is lo-fi, cost effective and the kids get involved about gifting. We no longer give cards instead we give photos laminated with magnet or a burnt copy of our favourite CD of the moment. Spending $5-$10 on card and wrapping is nuts.

Downloaded the App for my 2.5year old straight away. Very nice, easy and useful. Great launching pad to describe emotions and make funny faces.

I've left the front door wide open a few times. Once I get two toddlers in their car seats I just drive off without a backwards glance. My boyfriend has been good about it and nothings been stolen.

Am going to buy a lock that can be locked without keys. Fingers crossed I don't start locking myself out of the house.

This is the best pear cake! Served warm with pouring cream its the best on a cool night. It's a bit crumbly warm however once cooled in the fridge the slices are very portable.

In Australia (some) people coat the crusts in Vegemite and Cheese then bake them in oven. The resulting snack is a homemade Rusks. Apparently good for teething toddlers.

Am just about to paint all the bedrooms white! Am so excited. It's going to be a vast improvement over the previous owners choices of latte, peach, lemon and bright pink. The bold blue entry can stay for now.

More food content on the kids page would be great. Easy, quick, keeps well, healthy, can be made in advance for lunch boxes. These are the posts I scour the net for. My days of clipping recipes is over, recipes can only be kept if they meet strict requirements. I still buy mags and love my RSfeeds but I know our menu planning is family only for many years to come.
