At first I was like 'hmmm...not really.' But when I looked at it a few more times, it grew on me.

I love the kitchen cabinets as well!

This space is gorgeous. I love that you didn't limit yourself to conventional layout ideas when deciding where to put things (like a reading area & bed). I think in a small space, creativity is key.

Regarding the bed in the kitchen: One of my fondest memories was staying at a friend of a friend's tiny appartment in Finland where the bed was in a loft in the kitchen.

I hope you make it to the finals.

If you don't make it in the Small Cool contest, perhaps you ought to consider the Fall Colors contest! What a fun, non-cookie-cutter home you've managed!

I didn't bother to read through all the other suggestions first, so appologies if I'm repeating anything. Also, I didn't see any budget restrictions, so I'm not sure about your financial situation. Any, a couple of thoughts. Since you say you're already on top of the pillows and art, I won't go there. However, a bigger, more colorful rug (something lighter maybe, and big enough for the furniture to all be on it). Second, perhaps you might consider trading in one of those black leather couches for a couple of colorful chairs instead? This might also help open up the room a little, so you don't get that boxed-in feeling.

Otherwise, looks like things are coming right along. Good luck with settling in and making the place your own. Like the black leather!

I used to live in an attic appartment with no doors as well. It was one of my favorite appartments! Except, well, the bathroom, which was too short for a shower and had the toilet tucked way in the back so you had to crawl over the bathtub. Even still, it was great.

I would love to see a full house tour! Thanks for sharing.

your bathroom is great. It reminds me of the two weeks I spent crashing at a friend's flat in Helsinki. A unit-bathroom is the next best thing to a sauna. Awesome. Also the bookcases are indeed nautical, and beautiful, and the use of space in the kitchen is ingenious. I've been trying for two years to track down smaller scale appliances, but apparently they don't exist in Idaho...

@amiebarber8:

I've read that it's usually (though not always) better to adopt a cat this is younger than the cat you already have. Maybe it's something about younger cats being more willing to take a subordinate role in the heirarchy or something. But then again, I guess it depends on whether Abby Road is still rambunctious and playful by the time you're ready to adopt. If she's calmed down a bit, an older cat could work. So maybe the most important thing is to find a cat with a complimentary personality?
