If it's a photo card of family or friends, take a photo of the picture with your cell phone, and use the holiday picture as their caller id photo for the next year. :)

This would be amazing in my living room. We have been using a beat up futon for 5+ years now. I would love to have this. :) Add me to the crossed fingers group!

As a female computer engineer - I love LOVE love this!! :) Computer/Electrical engineering is still the one engineering field that is mostly men. There were only 5 women out of the 120 that graduated with me 4 years ago, and almost every meeting I am in at my work and with customers I am always the only woman in the room. I encourage any toys that help girls become more comfortable with circuit boards and electricity.

Timeless... I LOVE my lovesac. It was my first purchase when I got a job out of college 5 years ago, and to this day it is still one of my favorite pieces in my house. Nothing beats curling up with a blanket, cup of coffee, and a book on a Saturday morning. When my friends come over with their kids, they will all pile up in the lovesac to watch a movie. So cute. Also many of friends have spent the night on the lovesac instead of driving home after a few too many drinks. Super comfy, and multi-functional!

I agree with Trish and Ispell. Number one complaint messy neighbors that lead to bugs. Fortunately I complain to my landlord and has the exterminator there in 24 hours. That helps with the problem for about a month. It's sad too, because my apartment is a great deal for the size and price... stupid dirty boys below me.

I actually do this inside my apartment on a string of white lights. I alternate colors with the holidays/seasons. Right now my lights are covered with bright pops of blue, pink, bright green, and orange. You can pick up a pack of origami paper at Michael's Arts and Crafts with really simple instructions on how to make a box.

I like the idea of the boxes up outside on a patio. The only annoyance I can think of is putting them up and taking them down because of rainy weather.

I made my own gigantic bottle of vanilla extract a couple of years ago for my baking projects. It's super easy - a clear good brand of vodka, drop in a few cut open a vanilla beans, and let it sit for a three months shaking it up once a week. The best thing is the upkeep just a new bean every few years, and more vodka. You are set for life!

When ever I visit my friends that like sweets or baking, I pour them their own starter for vanilla extract in a small bottle out of my stash. Then the gift is useful, and handmade! :)

I also like to give homemade flavored alcohols, raspberry rum, etc for gifts around the holidays. Then you can tailor it to each person's tastes. And it's just as easy as the vanilla extract to make.

I love getting spices, but only because I like to plain my meal around a spice/flavor not a food. Probably why I'm a baker first, then a chef.

I second the no serving dishes. I'm very limited in space in my kitchen, and I am picky about my table settings.

OOOooh I simply love Canton! I would go there every first Monday as a kid with my Girl Scout troop. So much stuff to find. I am envious of my friends still in Texas since I moved away. Especially since I now have the funds to decorate my apartment! I would have loved searching for great finds there.

Monica K - I completely agree with the lack of good markets in the NYC/Northern NJ area. I've been looking since I moved here three years ago and I haven't found anything worthwhile!

I collect movie stubs too!! How do you organize or display yours? I currently have all of mine scattered through a few cigar boxes. Any better ideas?

I have actually been doing this for 5 years. For me it's not about the cheap solution - it's more about the amount of space. Door desks are huge! What I ended up doing was painting the door black, and holding it up with two black filing cabinets on each end.

My door is a solid wood door purchased from a hardware store, and it holds up quite well : 1 crt monitor, 1 flat panel, a printer, sound system, two cpus...
