@ WendyMR, here in Spain we have lots of versions of this soup withouth green pepper. In fact, my family never cooks this soup with green pepper. So I guess it's not so important ;-)
About the celery... I'm not sure it will work fine. But maybe it's because i'm thinking in Spanish traditional flavours.

The after is cute and happy and really suits the kid's room. Nicely done!

Painting the room gray is a good idea. I would remove the group of small frames, declutter the shelf aobove the radiator and paint both in white (radiator and shelf), and the hooks near the door, too.. Add a high bookcase in the corner, and a lower bookcase in the empty wall, both in white. Complete with bins or baskets for toys storage and some trays & bowls on top of it to make a landing strip for adults. Bring some Ikea cheap white sheer curtains- the ones you have look heavy..
I would keep the room in white & gray with some spots of colour to make it look airy.
And I would move all those small frames over the hooks

I would say paint the cabinets as I don't think these pine doors are something oh-so-especial.
But depending on the money you have / you are willing to invest in this kitchen I would recommend to fix other things first, and if you still have money, go with painting the cabinets.
First of all I would change the eletrical coil stovetop ( as other ommenter said they are hazardous) and do something to the tiled countertop, even if it's only a cheap temporary fix. Not only it look dated and too country style, but from my own experience tiled countertop are a nightmare to keep clean. If you cook everyday and, even worse, you like to bake, the grout will look filthy in no time. I lived a year with this kind of countertop and I had to buy a small steam cleaner and use it every week.
After that I would look for a ccheap system of under cabinet lighting (Ikea?), and replace the ceilingh light. .
Though everyone like a nice kitchen, I do prefer a safe & easy to work with kitchen over a lovely but dangerous & non functional one.

Please don't clean marble with vinegar, lemon or other acidic substances. They will harm the marble.

As many others said, I would keep the curtains and start the changes on the cheap.
The most important change: add colour and texture to the bed, with two extra bed pillows and a throw in strong deep colours or bold patterns. Then hang the curtains at the maximum height, stain dark the trim around the window and hang some art. This will be a big improvement.
But if you want to move another step, I would repaint the room and add white sheers to the window.

@Violet+Violet, so true!! I've found this quite often.
The only (not necessary) thing that makes me feel happier having it than looking at it is a small bunch of fresh flowers. And after drooling many weeks over an expensive bouquet of tiger lilies I splurged on it only to realize that these flowers were too loud for my simple house, and actually I liked a lot more the vine branches a friend gave me from her garden. So now I always buy simple & cheap flowers. They make me smile!

What a wonderful room! Full of light and colour, cozy and happy. It looks lived and loved, a real room, not a stage. Congratulations.
