I always opt for local first, organic second. I find that most local farmers at our local markets are very clear about if and how they treat their produce if you just ask. Organics: Where Do You Draw the Line? |

Try sandstone coasters. Seriously. They absorb the moisture AND insulate. They're heavy as all get out, but they work fabulously and last forever (provided you don't break/crack them). Quilted Coasters That Actually Work Martha Stewart |

Believe it or not, in my experience those ultrasonic pest repellers do work. I've got the Black & Decker brand (they come in multi-packs and don't break the bank), and they've been great. I've been using them for several years now. They don't bother my cat and the didn't bother my dog (may she rest in peace). How To Humanely Get Rid of the Mouse In My Apartment? Good Question |

There's a corner market near me that I guess would be classified as a "hippie store." They've got a small section of local veggies/fruits, a big tub of fresh tofu in the refrigerated section (just reach in with a plastic baggie and pull out how many blocks you want!), and a completely random selection of goods. I buy a big container of yogurt at the farmers' market every week and making my own "fruit on the bottom" yogurt cups for some time now. The variety is endless! And you can create flavors you'd never find at the store. I had this ginger jam for awhile that was absolutely fantastic mixed with yogurt. :) Make Your Own Fruit-on-the-Bottom Yogurt Cups |

For those that suggested not using bags at all or using brown paper bags, make sure you check if there are any regulations regarding trash (in your lease, your apartment/condo/homeowners association documentation/handbook, or in your city refuse collection regulations). Raw milk is available at my local farmers' market (open weekly year round). As bluetrek31 indicated, it's regulated and certified in the state of PA, which means it's widely available. My corner market sometimes carries it! Raw Milk: What's the Hold Up? | Apartment Therapy Re-Nest |

I have the Tvatta rack from IKEA ($39.99). It folds down flat against the wall when not in use. :) It works really well for me in my apartment. I mounted it on the wall in the bathroom. My lease stipulates I can't put laundry out on my balcony to dry since it's out front. What I can't fit on the rack, I put on hangers and hang from the shower curtain rod. Sigh. If only I could give up lip balm. My lips are naturally chapped. Something about the angle of my lips and the angle of my nose creates a perfect storm of constantly chapped lips year round.
