Alison6971, we just bought a light filtering shade from IKEA for our kitchen. The white does a good job of diffusing the light while blocking the afternoon heat. A good, inexpensive option. We did tighten the mechanism inside (my bf did so I don't know the specifics) so that it pulled open/retracted shut like a normal shade, not like a piece o stuff shade from IKEA.

This is a side view of our chicken coop. We made the entire thing ourselves, mostly out of material given to us by our jobs (food manufacturing facility, the outside of the coop is made of wood that held a new machine for the plant - we burned the wood with a blowtorch to get the effect). We love it and our 4 girls (Dorothy, Rose, Blanche and Sophia) seem to enjoy it as well.

We did this recently with our chicken coop - we used 100% reclaimed wood (from a tear-down at work) and had some pallets that machinery came in on. We burned using a torch hooked up to a propane tank and realized that our wood wasn't going t do a deep char very easily. However, we love the effect as-is even more because the grain of the wood really pops. Someday I'll load more images but here's one:

I have a flokati rug - very large, maybe 7' x 10' or so. I've found the best way to clean it is to bring to a laundromat and use their commercial sized washers - the ones that cost the most, like, $5.25. Stuff it in there - mine barely fits and I have to shove the door shut. Wash with a mild detergent - probably a clear one is best. Because mine is so big, I have to wash it twice to make sure to get everything out of the long fibers. Spin cycle is great and gets most of the water out. Then dry for maybe 15 minutes - you'll want to watch it and regularly flip the rug so both sides get dry. And voila...a beautiful fluffy rug again!

I love The Joinery! My parents are buying a few pieces from them but I can't afford them myself.

The dining room color looks like what I have in my bedroom...I used Benjamin Moore's Aura paint in Thunderbird. It's awesome and I love it. Also love the Aura line as I had to paint over a dark burgundy wall and it handled it, no problem, in two coats.
