The first thing I'll suggest to anyone is to invest in something like a VitaMix Blender. That thing will make a smoothie out of a sleeve of golf balls. I use the bejeebers out of that sucker. It's expensive but many times you can get them on QVC using their "easy pay" plan. It really helps you to incorporate greens into your drinks as it makes them COMPLETELY smooth and you get all the fiber compared to juicing. I make one every day with spinach, parsley, mint, coconut oil, a slice of lemon (peel and all--you want all of the fiber in this stuff), frozen pineapple, and frozen papaya. If I added vodka it would taste like a tropical drink because you don't taste the spinach at all. Good website and book from greensmoothiegirl.com. Lots of good drink recipes especially for those who avoid dairy which most smoothie recipes are chock full of.

Cookies won't stick (release from the press) to a non-stick pan. When you press cookies, be sure your cookie pans are cool and that there is no grease on the pans. Cookies don't seem to stick to parchment either...need to be pressed directly onto the pan.

@minuet42: I, too, LOVE that idea! I'm thinking of trying a 1/2 nuts and 1/2 Chex thingy.

I do this as well. But I use half pans from the restaurant supply store. They're very sturdy and, since they have a lip, I turn them over and use the back side (with parchment paper) for cookies. Funny, I do the same thing with my curling iron, after unplugging it, to cool it off before putting it in my suitcase.

I have had the consistency of various sugar pumpkins turn out differently. To roast, I cut them in half and roast, cut side down for about an hour at 350. Perhaps enough water evaporates due to the pumpkin being halved but mine seems ok. I put the pulp in the Cuisinart to puree it and then freeze it in 3/4 c. amounts (that's how much pumkin puree my pie recipe calls for) in zipper freezer bags. Even my light yellow purees becomes a fairly dark pie. Especially after adding cinnamon, ginger, clove, and nutmeg.

Can I get a blank copy of this? I could see this as being helpful.

Betty Crocker Cookbook For Boys And Girls. The recipes have changed in the different editions since I got mine in 1963 (from my grandmother for Christmas) but the pink marshmallow popcorn balls is still one of my favorite things ever and I still make them every Christmas.

The biggest reason I would make my own whipped cream, aside from the superior taste, would be to use organic heavy cream and not have a bunch of artificial stuff in it...like marshmallows or pudding mix.

I copy and paste recipes into my Epicurious file. If it's a print recipe, I scan and email it to myself, copy, paste. Then my Epicurious file is available to me via my iPad at the store. It even composes a grocery list for me when I select recipes.

How long does a chicken lay for and how long is the typical lifespan of a bird...assuming no predator interference? I'm pretty sure I couldn't soup/stew one of my girls once she hits menopause.

Love them for all reasons previously stated but they do crack if jumbled around in the freezer. They are perfect for single serve portioning and storing all of the extra cashew cream I make for vegan cooking. Use them for fridge storage all the time.

My personal shame is that I have never been a fruit jam nor jelly lover (although I do love pepper jelly on a toasted onion bagel with cream cheese...but I digress). I'll use jam on the ones I make for others but I am hoping that these might be good with pumpkin butter in the ones I make for myself.

I prefer not juicing and using a VitaMix machine instead. That thing will make a smoothie from a sleeve of golfballs. That way, you get all of the fiber from your food as well and not just the high sugar content of fruit. It makes wonderful cocktails. It's super easy to clean and I make dog food, soups, sauces, and ice cream in it as well. Plus you can usually buy it in QVC and spread out the payments on EasyPay. There's no way this won't sound snotty but I'll roast my own chicken over a Costco rotisserie bird. Those cheap rotisserie birds are hormone and antibiotic filled commercially farmed birds...usually shot full of cheap veg oil for roasting. Cheap meat is cheap for a reason. Love Costco for many things but a great deal of my Costco's fish is farmed and I won't purchase that either. See? Snotty. I know...

Grew up in Columbus, OH. A few good things...little to wax poetic about until summer tomato season. Moved to Seattle. Ahhhhh...Salumi, Pike Place Chowder, Ivar's, Tom Douglas anything, Top Pot Donuts... Plus the Pike Place Market as my grocery. Now back in Cols due to family and miss it every moment.

Two things...first, I travel for work, I MUST have my one fabulous cup in the morning, and hotel coffee is disgusting. I have an AeroPress coffee maker that I travel with along with a zipper bag of home ground beans. The AeroPress is a vacuum type coffee maker made of plastic and weighs nothing in my bag.

Second, if you think you have acid reflux, you may not. You may have a lack of stomach acid. Try an 8 oz glass of water with a TBSP of raw cider vinegar (I add a drop of Stevia to make "the medicine go down") before your morning coffee or each meal. After 20 years of Tums, Zantac, Prilosec, and Nexium...I don't use them any more. More money for coffee beans!
