When my daughter was young, I used to keep a small blank book in her lunchbox. Each day I'd write her a little note. Sometimes I'd tell her a story about when I was a kid. Sometimes it'd be a reminder that I'd be picking her up early or something more mundane. She loved these and would have the teacher read these out to her, and the teacher told me she liked reading them out to her. I kept the books and love looking at them now. I'm not the kind of mom that would have kept this up on my own, but because my daughter enjoyed it so much I was able to keep it up for a good couple of years. I have a very small kitchen I've been diy re-doing, trying to add storage and also eliminate unnecessary items. One of the best investments I've made was a $50 wall pot rack I got from Fingerhut. Our ceiling is too low to accommodate an overhead rack, but we are able to store 3 pots, a steamer, 3 frying pans (large, medium, small), lids, a breadboard and knife, and with some extra hooks, measuring cups and spoons and a few other utensils.
