I grew up about 100 miles from four of these cities and I turned out awesome. Looks like another slow day at Forbes magazine. Also - picking on the Midwest? The whole state of Alabama seems pretty miserable.

Phew, I'm so glad it's okay to use chicken broth! I used some in a beef stew last week because I was too lazy to go buy beef broth. It turned out fine, but I should have browned the meat longer.

Ooh, If Southern Writers were a genre, I'd pick:
"A Confederacy of Dunces" by John Kennedy Toole
"Other Voices, Other Room" by Truman Capote
"To Kill a Mockingbird" Harper Lee
"Quite a Year for Plums" Bailey White
"A Childhood: The Biography of Place" Harry Crews

I think it's really awesome that all the people who are blogging the January Cure have regular-people homes and not houses that look like they came from Architectural Digest or Dwell. Sometimes I get sad when I'm on this site because my apartment has ugly carpet and dropped ceilings, but it's really encouraging that other people have normal homes that in which every single thing isn't staged and on-trend. Not to say that the houses aren't wonderful, which they are.

Thanks Elizabeth!

I can relate so well to the paralysis that comes with purchasing basic items. Soap? Buy natural, sounds easy. NOT so easy. Should I buy it on Etsy? Should I buy it from a local soap maker on Etsy? Should I buy it from Trader Joe's? What has the smallest carbon footprint, smells the best, and is the most natural?

Then your boyfriend tells you to buy some soap because you can't use shampoo forever and then I just buy some Dr. Bronner's at Target.
