I think it's fabulous! I love the way the trim pops out, it makes the curves of the thing really stand out. And the pattern is great, it's one that I probably would have passed by and missed a huge opportunity; every room needs one piece of quirky or bizzare furniture in my opinion and you did a marvelous job with it. I love the idea of a two tone finish, one colour with a slightly darker one over top of it to accent the designs. Whether you do the two tone turquoise, or the red and black, a grey with black over top...whatever your fancy, I think that would look marvelous! I would suggest replacing the railing with a wood one of somesort, with the support post behind the lions and maybe put a light just above them like amandad2 suggested. That way they would maybe look like they belonged to something. I think we can all agree that whatever you do, do NOT accent their facial features. That's just plain creepy. I have an almost 3 year old nephew who is obsessed with zombies....we think he got it from his older brother who is 6 and claims that his step dad (which he doesn't have) is Dracula and his invisible sister is also a vampire and her name is Sebella. We watched the movie "Coraline" with the older one when he was 4, I was thoroughly creeped out by the intro and he was patting my leg saying "it's not creepy aunty, it's not creepy."
