It's like a modern day Breakfast at Tiffany's on a smaller scale, I love the tiny kitchen.

This is one of the best house tours I've seen. It's perfect!
I can't say anything else!
Except how much did its construction cost? I want to live in a cottage like this...

I love this house, it is a fairy tale come true. I am glad to see that bale houses work down south too, maybe I can build one in Va one day.... I love the reading nooks and curved walls and the kitchen! I want a kitchen like that. The whole place makes me sigh, I am saving this house tour, it's so warm and inviting.

I love this place, it's my favourite so far! I love the colors of the wood and the walls, reds and greens... the textures...everything, it makes me so jealous, I wish I could do something like that with my place. I like what I can see of the kitchen too, and I agree with others, we need a house tour!

I got my fridge from AJ Madison 2 years ago and I had no problem with them, but I only ordered one thing. The guys drove from Brooklyn to Boston in a UHaul, dropped it off and left, and I had to get the damn thing in the apt myself... another story. I actually got the Avanti Apartment sized fridge and it's worked great for me so far! (knock on wood..) When I bought it, it cost in total $300, it was the cheapest for the size, and I liked that it had a freezer because a lot of others I looked at didn't. I do have to make sure I shut the door tightly and I have the chill level on 5, the highest setting but that is the best temp. it seems. All in all it is a low-end fridge that works for me right now, no complaints! And I don't think it uses more energy that any other fridge, the electric bill seems normal to me.

Ha, I can see both sides of the comments on this post. I just returned from OKC where I got heat exhaustion due to my unadjusted body coming from Boston where it's been raining and cool for months...years? I noticed everyone in OK had their shades drawn..for good reason too, it was 103. Here, I live in a ground level apt, so I have one big sliding glass door in the back for sun, my bed is placed there, the rest is a cave.

Hi, that's from an article in my favorite defunct magazine Blueprint, July/August 2007 issue. The chairs are from DWR, style "Holz" listed at 150 bones each. That's my dream home...sigh.

Oh man am I jealous! I also live in a basement apartment and I have the same couch as you and blue walls...but my place isn't nearly as nice, I would love to have your kitchen. I have 3 of those high rectangular windows too..drags me down in the winter man. I love your breaker box cover idea too! Great job!

to letterecher: In some European and Scandinavian countries they sleep inside of a folded duvet on top of a fitted sheet instead of under a sheet duvet. This is how we did in Germany.

That's the Macy's Corona sofa in Cafe Noir I believe. I have it in Pear and it is the best purchase I've made for my apt. It is very comfortable and well made, look for it on sale, I got mine for $629 last year (not including shipping etc.) Much better quality than sofas I looked at that cost more from other stores (Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn, etc.)

I love this, it's truly unique and not styled to the teeth like a lot of the places we see on this site. I think the stove is just a propane camper stove on a bench? It reminds me of my friend's house growing up, she lived in the mountains in a house her father built by himself, nothing seemed finished or too permanent.

I live in a basement apt in Boston, or "finished ground level," as I like to call it, I just moved in a couple of months ago so I don't know how the winter will be but so far it's ok. I have the same reservations about it getting dark so early here and I wonder if I will regret this, but the rent is cheap and it's my own place. I have a large window/door in my room that opens to a garden so I get a lot of light in there but otherwise I have 3 tiny ground level windows. I put plants in those sills and I feel like I am in a terrarium, which is better than feeling like I am in a basement, I don't have curtains in those windows either, I don't see the need. I have seen some house centipedes but I also had those in my other apts, which weren't basement apts so I think it is a Boston thing, gross I know! It is nice and cool when it is warm and feels warmer when it is colder outside. I have bright track lighting, I am not sure what kind of bulbs, it is almost like museum lighting and I also have other lights all over and mirrors everywhere. And like Sabrinaa said, it is only a year (or 2 for me) so I can take some subterranean living for a limited time. I also painted the walls that were very dark colors light, bright colors and it looks so much better. Check for mold though! Esp in the bathroom, you don't want to deal with that, I run some bleach over walls, ceilings once a week in there just in case...haven't seen any yet. Best of luck!
