making the bed is a great habit, but AFTER you have pulled back the sheets and blankets and aired it out! A warm and moist (eww) bed, if you sweat, is a fine breeding ground for lots of unsavory things --> dust mites, bacteria, etc. So, do make that bed, just air it out while you brew your coffee or tea, first!

Spring Valley? Really? I grew up there--left at 16, couldn't get far enough away from the gun racks, gang violence, and general hoodlum-ery. But hey, maybe I should go back and check it out... :)

oh, and a follow up: all shampoos are detergent--you know, corrosive, the stuff you clean auto parts, carpet, etc. with. detergents are designed to "cleanse" without (one hopes) stripping away too much of the natural sebum so as to make hair unmanageable. Hair/scalp needs sebum, it's a natural protective mantle--and hair/scalp gets oily in response to over-cleansing--you strip the oils out, and your body tries desperately to replace the protective layer.

try going shampoo-free, it's a relatively new (since the 50s-ish) development, anyway. give your body enough time to adjust, maybe a month (actual mileage may vary), and delight in a bit of detox for your beautiful bod!

Simple Hair Cleanse: Apple Cider Vinegar

Hi Caralyn and others--I have been shampoo free for nearly two months with great results! In addition, I have stopped using all products on my hair with the exception of a light organic oil and essential oil blend (barely a drop) to smooth over my hair after it is dried. I use baking soda to cleanse, ACV dilution, with several drops of lavender essential oil, to rinse.

A note re: essential "oils" they are not composed of "oil" and it's sad that the moniker suggests this, but they are the volatile aromatic compounds derived from the plant. Not oil, nor will they lend an oily feeling to your hair.

6) Ditch the plastic drycleaning bags. They trap moisture and cleaning chemicals which are bad for clothing.

What! You are still using a cleaner that uses perclor? You are kidding, right? :)
And, the bags and hangers can be disassembled at the cleaners and left for them to recycle and you take your clean goods home on your own lovely hangers.

Umm, instead of the vodka, Everclear (no, not the band) is the thing to use. It's what we herbalists (well, when I was) use for tinctures. 100 proof, baby. Eucalyptus and or tea tree essential oil is a nice anti-bac, smell-good addition. But just wear the damn jeans, ok?

My issue is how much they grow (or I shrink) after one wearing.
