I would love more lower calorie options - or substitutions that can be made to make dishes lower calorie - in cooking and baking. I have lost almost 50 lbs over the past year, and in order to maintain it I am going to have to continue to eat fewer calories than most people eat. I have experimented a lot the past year, but honestly, a lot of my attempts were less than successful. So, it would be great to get some guidance! Got a Question for Reader Request Week? My sister lives in a small town in downstate Illinois (I'm up in Chicago)...it isn't too Jesus-y, but they sure love their guns. Politically, your ideas of Democrats and Republicans will probably be turned upside down. Many Democratic state reps look an awful lot like Republicans, and the Republicans are pretty reasonable. The big, giant tubs in bathroom (with a small, claustrophobic shower) make absolutely no sense to me. Sure, maybe some people take baths more than a few times a year, but the vast majority of people take showers almost daily. So, why wouldn't you make the shower luxurious, since it is getting the most use? Before & After: Bringing a 1990s Bathroom Into 2013 |

Children need to learn to show appreciation for every present given. Even if they would prefer something else, they need to learn to appreciate the thought and gesture behind it. It isn't bullying to tell children before a gift-giving event that while they may not like the gift they were given, they should still thank the giver and tell them that you appreciate it. It is called politeness and manners. Appropriateness of Gift Cards for Young Children? Good Questions |

Please do not paint the woodwork, especially if it is original and matches the rest of the house! Let the next owners decide if they want to do that or not. They may rip out the white cupboards and put in natural wood. They may like the contrast. I am kind of surprised with all the responses saying to paint it. Painting natural wood (that is in good shape) is usually a sin around here. How To Freshen Up This Kitchen in Preparation For Selling? Good Questions |

I don't have a really good spot in my apartment to put a real tree, so I have one waist-high lavender tinsel tree with silver ornaments, and one tabletop iridescent white tinsel tree with jewel-toned ornaments. Some day, when I have the space, I want a forest of tinsel trees and one real one. My belief is that if you are going to have a fake tree, it should look fake and you should celebrate it! I have to disagree with Maxwell about Ikea wine glasses breaking. I have had the same six Ikea wineglasses since 2003. They have survived 4 moves (and I am notoriously bad at packing). And I put them in the dishwasher. I keep hoping they will break, because I really want new, stemless ones! But they refuse to break. I am stuck with them, I guess. I agree with KHinNJ - It is very cute, but I was expecting a dollhouse. With furniture and dolls - not necessarily a spiral staircase, but something more. This is still a bookcase, just with a roof. But it is inspirational as a basic template. If I had kids, I would be all over this idea. Before & After: Bookshelf Into Dollhouse |

I don't understand the suggestions to buy or make slipcovers. If I just spent a good chunk of change on a nice couch in a style I like, why would I fug it up with a slip cover? Especially a slip cover made out of drop cloth canvas? Picking The Perfect Couch: A Timeline of Couches That Didn't Last |
