This house has a lot of potential and they have done some great things with it already. Things I loved:
- Walkway in the front
- The travertine plank flooring (wish the whole house has the plank instead of squares too)
- Chandelier in the entryway - so unique and gorgeous.
- The color on the walls! (Sorry EAM I totally have to disagree about painting the walls white, I would do more color not less).
- The backyard (although the patio could use some weeding, the stream is amazing).
- The living room is perfection in my book. Love everything about it.
- The ninja plate. Nuff said.

Somethings I would want edit if I were consulting on the design:
- The orange and salmon bathroom, I hate to say it but that color combo has always made me cringe. Rather then going white or peach on the walls - why not emphasize that crazy (good) orange tile (I am guessing it is some type of stone via the previous owners) by painting the surrounding walls a darker color (darker orange, red or brown). It would make the orange tile really pop and give the space a strong direction.
- I would take a little bit of an editing eye to amount of stuff sitting on surfaces. I think when a space has so many interesting things on the walls the eye wants a cleaner space below. For example, in the little seating area in front of the screen I would take all but one of the objects off the table because it distracts from the great plates and art hanging above.
- The screen/room divider - dare I say it? I would paint it! And not just one color, multiple, maybe orange yellow and red? If it didn't work you could always repaint it black, but I think that painting it different colors would really go with the playfulness of the rest of the space.
- Lastly, continuing with my theme of emphasizing existing elements and adding color - I would paint the ceiling (and only the ceiling) in that front room with the bookcases and amazing chandelier. A really saturated orange would go with the rest of the house (same color as the dining room wall?) and it would put that light fixture front and center.

The ceiling in this space is unbelievable. The fact the it extends the entire space rather than just being a feature in a single room makes it exceptional. Amazing!

I love how the french doors in the living room appear to follow the ornate line of the doorway, although I do wish that the casing was natural wood as opposed to painted the bright white.

I love European style NYC apartments. There is always in interesting play between positive and negative space to me. I think the furnishings are lovely too - as others have said - they look like lovingly selected and treasured pieces.

Thank you so much for sharing you home!

Lastly -
Can AT do some posts of bridges so that all the Trolls who post about their "conscious" and the evils of 2000sqft could finally feel at ease?

Oh and one other comment about the whole "this apartment is too upscale" "apartment therapy should stick to low cost quirky spaces" discussion.

Personally, I find a mix of different types of spaces to be refreshing and interesting. I appreciate the various styles more when I have a broader perspective to compare to. There is nothing wrong with having a variety of sizes, shapes, styles, and price points represented in the hour tours. If you don't think you will like a particular style - no one is forcing you read the tour. We are not saving the world here people - it's ok to take a day off sometimes.

It is a bit self indulgent as a reader on this site to expect that your particular style and opinion should be the only one represented or valued here. Honestly, can't we all try to be a bit more open minded rather than bickering about what should or should not be included on this website? It isn't even our decision!

I love the wine pantry here. Great idea and execution.

This tour kind of reminds me of the feeling of some of the great vintage rent controlled apartments that are still out there in NYC. The types of places where the owner has lived there for 60 years and has accumulated a lifetime of treasures inside. There are some absolutely beautiful gems like that. I feel like the furnishings in this apartment really mirror that feel. There is a little bit of a disconnect for me where the modern kitchen and the flooring come in. If this apartment had some reclaimed or distressed wood floors it would look absolutely perfect and everything would blend together seamlessly. Still, I have to say, I think this is a very nice space and I like the emphasis on comfort and eclectic elements. You have a beautiful home Maria!

Well I am a little late to the posting party here, but I had to have my say. I found this tour to be interesting and refreshing compared to many of the usual tours featured.

I am a huge fan of millwork, beams, wood paneling, and wood floors so of course this was up my alley. I think the wide plank floors in the bedroom are gorgeous, the width really highlights the grain of the wood. I think the use of a more ethereal curtain in most of the rooms softened the space and helped bring in the great light that people are all raving about. I love the stone and wood features in the yard as well - that pergola is wonderful. The bench and closed cabinetry in the entryway is fantastic too.

I think that people have a hard time with the combination of these two styles. A lot of posters commented that the house is lacking something or feels wrong. I think that this is just a reaction to the melding of these two styles. We are used to seeing modern style with simple strong lines but bold colors. We are used to seeing more rustic or traditional style with embellishment and a stronger theme to the decor. I thought that the combination in this case worked well, especially considering that the styles are so different.

Lastly, I have say that I think the "sustainability/energy use/global warming" argument as an excuse for trashing this house is absolutely ridiculous. There is an awful lot of assumption going on here. Unless I missed it, there was nothing posted in this tour about the heating, cooling, or energy usage of this house. For all you know, every window in this place could be argon filled triple pane glass, they might have the very best insulation, point of use water heaters, LED bulbs, photovoltaic panels, passive solar water heating, rain barrels and every other energy efficient technology you could think of! Honestly people, come in to the current century please – just because a house has some square footage to it does not mean it is single handedly contributing to the destruction of the planet. A tiny house in the middle of nowhere with bad insulation, old appliances, boilers, water heaters, and old plumbing could just as easily be a bane on the environment. Generalizing that all houses past a certain square footage are environmentally irresponsible is just plain short-sighted and silly.
