The before was quirky and kinda funky, the after looks like a generic big box dresser. But I appreciate the effort that went into it,Im sure it was difficult.

This is a case where I think a simple paint job would have sufficed. The new look detracts from its lines, wich were the only cute thing about it. Im just not sure it rated so much labor ?

I love the bones of it,and that fabulous garden, but the complete lack of art on the walls leaves me cold. A home without art is to me a home without a soul.

I confess that I too was one of those people who didn't understand why it was so hard for people to get a better job and move into a better neighborhood if their lives were so miserable. THEN,in 2007 I had a heart attack (not overweight, didnt smoke) and 2 months later had another one.
Even with insurance my hospital bill was left owing $200,000.My job as a manager for a national convenience store was held for me,but with a proviso. I had to drive an hour and a half each way. When gas was $4 a gallon.Technically, they held my position open, but they knew what they were doing, that way I couldn't sue or get long term disability . I had only missed 6 weeks of work after my second heart attack, but I simply couldn't afford to ride out the short term disability so I had to return to work. The drive and the stress almost finished me off,so after missing so much due to reccuring illnesses (infections, meds not working, etc) I was let go. In the ensuing months after that I burned through my savings,401k,and credit cards trying desperately to keep my home ( I was/am alone,so no partner to lean on) but in the end lost it all. Then my cobra ran out(at $800 a month) so I had no insurance. Then in 2008,well,we all know what happened then.
I ended up moving in with my elderly mother, selling off most of my better possessions, and applying for whatever I could get, wich was NOTHING. Apparently I had made too much money in the previous 2 years. At the time I was 45,with health conditions that pretty much made sure I was poison to any employer. And poverty is a disease others find infectious for I went from a circle of friends to just 2 .Not only do you deal with poverty and all its crushing ramifications, you deal with depression ( I really wanted to just die) so no one wanted to be around me. I never asked for help from anyone (still don't) but Ive learned so much about life and myself that though Id rather have what I used to,in a way Im a better person for all the trials. Now Im OK,make a little money selling on ebay and craigslist, and thanks to our president I have health care again. I still live with mother, but shes getting to where she needs full time companionship so Ive gotten comfortable with it.
Between the both of us we aren't poor, poor, but theres not much extra. Considering where I was a few years ago,I feel like im in heaven now.So when I pass a beggar with a sign and have a couple of bucks,I share it.It isn't easy to be poor in this country, and after my taste of it Ill NEVER look down on someone for it again.

And get yourself one of those hollowed out books for your jewelry . We were broken into twice, and they trashed the house but never touched the bookshelf ! So my grandmothers diamonds and dads coins were safe, though our comuters and tvs weren't so lucky.
