hey, that's my old nursery (#3)! my kitchen (international small-cool kitchen winner) uses birch for a backsplash - yes, you just need to treat it. mine isn't forever, so i'm not too worried.

and, uh, as the international winner (what!what!) - that info is all (i'm assuming) from last year's winner...

-the table is holding up OK, the kids have def. left a few gashes, but i don't mind 'character'!
-the stools are vintage.
-re: the neatness, it's a good mix of display and everyday stuff, the display never gets touched, the everyday stuff stays neat in its piles - easy peasy!

thanks, everyone!
@mreiss it's birch plywood treated with oil (the same stuff i used on the counter tops from IKEA). you can get birtch plywood with real birch laminate that looks really good, too.

Great room. Of course, any room with a Prouvé table and LA chandelier can't go wrong! My own dining room has a lot of the same elements.

sheepskins, throws, and diligent cleaning! almost everything i bring into this house has to pass the "how fast until it's destroyed" test. and yet, i have a pale gray sofa, white linen slipcovered arm chair and a suede butterfly chair sling with a beautiful sheepskin on it - all easily cleaned.
the floors...that's another story.

Yup, I just got new appliances in white. works so much for my 'scandi' inspired (groan) kitchen and because it's a small kitchen it doesn't chop it up.

no, mostly because who *NEEDS* sugar after dark? is there seriously no store near by? It's sad, yes; I wouldn't even consider going to a neighbours for some food staple before just going to the store.
