I grew up in the 70s, and oh Wow, 3, 6, 7 and 14 love it. I've been trying to make over my 1975 brick ranch into a 1957 mid-century modern home, and it just won't work. It's time for me to embrace my 70s "pad" and finally enjoy the "grooviness" of where I live. Harvest gold shag carpet..check. Raised hearth brick fireplace...check. Paneled walls...check. Harvest gold bathroom..double check. So I'm gonna paint the walls, install some wood flooring, and I'm done.

American Style Through the Decades: The Seventies

Wow, what a great post.
CD towers seemed useless then and now.

Small computer desks I think can be repurposed as vanities. The larger ones can be used as a make-shift dining table with some tweaking. I love, my old end tables from the 60's, and could never part with those. I purchased an old console TV cabinet at a thrift store for $35.00 (thankfully without the TV), recovered the sliding doors, and use it to store my old record albums, CDs and audiobooks. Would love to have an old telephone table. I could have bought one years ago, but passed on it. Sigh...

I purchase original vintage pieces whether they have well known names or not. I buy them because they are well made. I'd much rather own one original piece even if it's small, than a house full of knock-offs

Sniff, sniff...why can't I do this in my house.

This home is far out!! Love the dining room, sitting room, and best of all the sofa in the studio/craft room.

I think if you could apply the same design sense that's in the bathroom, your place would be very inviting.

Have to agree with everyone else though...the bed is very much like a dorm room.

After seeing the outside, I wasn't going to look at this house tour because I knew I'd be jealous. After seeing the hallway with the skylight, I'm really jealous.

What a lovely home, and beautiful artwork.

"Buy things that you truly love and respond to – don’t just fill a space with things because it needs to be filled. If you have the luxury of time, it is worth it to end up with pieces that you may have for a lifetime."

Great advice, and I can see the interior designer touches. Your home is warm and minimal without being sparse.

Love, love the last picture especially the fireplace, and chandelier...and the bed, and the high ceiling!! The only thing that's missing is a cat.

It's colonial coastal.

I've made peace with the lack of natural light in the living room, but not the lack of hardwood floors.

I LOVE my large lot, quiet neighborhood, and my neighbors.

LMAO!!

You toss items to your partner, rather than getting up to hand them off.

I agree, you'll regret selling it. You could use that as a desk, and when you entertain, as a buffet table.

Hate: stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, animal prints.

Love: items from childhood, including toys, tables, and fabrics - vintage or not. White appliances, textured and natural fabrics.

I also agree with Jentastic...a good cleaning changes the way you view your home.

Three vintage 60's era end tables, and a prayer rug made in Pakistan.

Funny, I was thinking about this earlier today before I saw this post.

I like the little sitting area (picture #15), and the light that streams in.

My house gets very little light throughout the day, but I've managed to live with that. The thing is I must be the only person in America without hardwood floors. Any chance of seeing more tours of homes with carpet?
