@barlowgirl - You wouldn't want to use it in brown sugar - it would have the opposite effect you're wanting! They make terra cotta disks that release moisture, or I've heard a piece of apple, marshmallows, or slice of bread works, too!

Or you can just form a wire coat hanger into a loop and string different sized ornaments on!

Maybe a large shelving unit, like the Ikea Expedit, but one with a back so she can't crawl through? Or if you can't find anything, and want to keep the openness to the stairway, I'd just say, like many others, just move the couch forward. It'll make the living space cozier, but it'll be safe!

@KARTFX - I'd look on Etsy. I got mine from this shop and love it: http://www.etsy.com/shop/Covercraft?section_id=11101505

I LOVE the painted green army men. So whimsical. I wonder if he first intended it to be a mock headboard, but then decided he'd get poked in the head so placed it higher? Haha.

I also have a red bedroom, so this one really jumped out at me. Sweet!

I love that so many people are suggesting reds & purples. That's exactly what I was thinking - like either a really deep dark red or an eggplant.

(And I think the green would need to be a bright kelly green for it to look Christmasy.)

Orange, especially b/c it will pull down the color from the picture on the wall! Or if you could find a patterned or striped fabric with orange in it too, that would look great!

Our cutting down recently hasn't necessarily been due to the economy - we just needed to cut down in an attempt to get out of debt!

We canceled our DirecTV, internet and Netflix. We cook at home all the time, and I bring lunch to work. I try to watch little things like turning off lights and anything we're not using as well.

Starbucks is a tough one for us too - we live on it. Haha. Instead of getting it daily, I might have a latte once or twice a week, and drink the (yucky) office coffee instead.

Haha. I have that Ikea coffee table too, along with the matching sofa table (or whatever you call the taller table that sits behind the couch. My bad.) The leaf slides in & stores on little bracks on the underside - very handy.

I completely agree with Jaclyn - It's not very good quality (particle board) and does scratch really really easily. Unless it's in perfect condition, they're charging too much for it.

But with that said, I need all the extra storage I can get, and it's really great for that. We have blankets, board games and other stuff in there.
