I also appreciate all the suggestions! I have an old Ikea futon, so I've run into exactly the same problem. The only things I have been able to get under the bed are an old laptop and a cutting board!

Beautiful! Can I give more than one thumbs up?? My favorite so far, but I don't think anyone will be able to surpass this.

Has anyone done this setup with a desktop computer? How did you arrange it with all the cables and cords and peripherals? Did it look as nice?

It's "inspiration", not "inspriation".

Heads up - I just looked up Orange Guard. Its main ingredient, d-limonene, "has recently been implicated in toxicity cases in cats" (from the Cat Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook). So, no good for me - I have two cats.

Thanks, everyone, for the input. And thanks, livc, for the tip about OrangeGuard...I might get some to just to keep around. And if it's safe for food, it's got to be safe around pets.

I have to ask, what is the bedbug risk of buying secondhand furniture...which things should you definitely stay away from (upholstery, I'd imagine) and what things are risk-free? Is there any kind of treatment that you can do to Craigslist furniture to eliminate any possible bedbugs?

I've been hearing more and more stories about bedbugs that I'm becoming afraid of everything!

Khatam et al, if you can't put your rugs on the floor, you could hang them on the wall, a la russe (when I was in Russia, every apartment I visited had a beautiful Persian rug hanging on the wall). That way you can still enjoy it, but it (or you) won't get damaged. Plus, great soundproofing.

When you do these roundups, can you please add a small rollover balloon or title to identify each picture, so the viewer doesn't have to keep scrolling up and down in order to figure out what each picture is? Thank you.

These Roundups make it hard to figure out what is what. Can you put a caption on the pictures or one of those rollover balloons? I have no idea which lamp is which. Thanks.

The last time I went apartment hunting, I did bring a copy of my credit report, but the manager couldn't use it because she needed a different kind of credit report that lists rental history, i.e. evictions.

I found the same thing as crunchygran0la: a few months ago, it was definitely a renter's market. Every apartment complex had some kind of promotion going on, and the manager of the apartment complex where I live now was very candid and confessed that she was desperate to fill a lot of vacancies. (Bridget212323 - I live in San Diego.)

I guess Southern California must be different than other big cities because I've never had to go to the lengths that these other readers have. Just the basics - proof of employment, good credit, and a good rental history. Or maybe it's because I tend to look for places off the beaten path.

I'm with you, TrinaC. Same here.

I sometimes refer to my apartment as my house, even though of course it isn't. An old habit from when I actually did live in a house.

Dear AT staff,

Every time you post an article about entryways and landing strips, there is a bevy of requests for inspiration and ideas for front doors that open directly into the living room.

When will you give us advice on this very common problem?

Thank you.

One cat loves to eat any kind of flower bouquet I bring home, so I put them on top of the refrigerator when I'm not around. He's a bit tubby, so he can't get up there.
The other cat prefers to chew plastic, so I have to go on plastic bag sweeps of my apartment. You'd be surprised at how much chewy, crinkly plastic you have hiding in your home.
