I agree with livc; would like to swap the bed and the painting. Nice kitchen cabinets but in general apartment feels a bit chilly willy. Perhaps because the photos were taken in the dead of winter? Erik Smith's Historic HideawayHouse Tour | Apartment Therapy Chicago |

opps, meant to say shoji paper applied directly to the glass doors. I used acrylic polymer to apply rice paper to the panels of a french door once, it looked great and when I moved it was easy to remove with a razor. Looks like the London squat I lived in back in the 80s. If the floors were beautifully polished, the paint on the wall above the band was well painted and the plant looked healthy I think this would work better. As is, it looks like an unloved, lifeless room. Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | Inspiration: Embrace Imperfection |

Wonderful apartment! Lovely bones and terrific interior design. The only personal discomfort I feel is the placement of the bed and the fact that it doesn't have a headboard. If it were my pad, I would need to create a nook for the bed with either a screen or some sort of platform. I covet your bathroom! Hey sally 305, yeah, "sore" was a pre-coffee typo. My main point is that making negative comments about the owners being anal and "rich" does not lend anything productive to the discussion of the design of this house. Seems like a lot of sore grapes in these comments! The owners have kids and pets and do not seem even slightly sterile/anal. Why does "rich" need to be pejorative? They created a home that they are proud of and obviously love. I expect it is the sort of space one needs to be inside to understand properly. shockthebourgeois, excellent point! It's not the one glass, the one bottle, the one cabinet door left open. It's the assumption that these things take care of themselves. I like to keep the house tidy so I do, it's my choice BUT it is nice to bitch about it sometimes. Thanks, AT! Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | Bad Habits To Break At Home |

I am so heartened to know that I am not the only one who lives with a man who leaves cabinets open, puts bottles on the counter directly ABOVE the recycling bin, is loathe to part with the most meaningless of items. These are terrific tips but a person's gotta wanna change. My man has other things on his mind. I love him, I am keeping him. Having a stellar housecleaner makes up for most of the irritation of living with a slob. Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | Bad Habits To Break At Home |
