I don't tend to follow individual blogs because I think a lot of them are guilty of filling their house with benign useless crap to "fill space". I know I am probably being pretentious, I cannot stand it when people buy or put up artwork to "decorate" their house. I find the canvased "art" and prints at Ikea / Pier 1 completely offensive. I don't like the trendy stylized font lettering people are hanging with irrelevant phrases. It's not clever at all and exists solely to fill space. It's on par with the tacky "inspirational" phrases "mom" types hang up around the home.
And speaking of over-styled, lets talk about the whole loud contrasting colors with loud obnoxious patterns like "morrocan tile" "chevron" look going on right now. Honestly, can we have a more processed, fake, catalog-looking aesthetic? I am not an ecowarrior, but I cringe knowing someone is throwing out this stuff in three years when it goes out of style. It's worse than 90s pastels. These looks are not versatile and are completely disposable. To be quite frank, it looks like the people who design tissue and tampon boxes decided to become interior decorators.

Long story short, I am not a fan of design choices that reflect trendy aesthetics. Designing your home should not be like designing product packaging.

And here I was looking for retro floral wallpaper to fix some of the holes in our pink half bathroom. :)

It's unfortunate to see it go, but if you have to, just gut the whole thing at once. (kill it swiftly!) Painted tile just sounds like a bad idea altogether and I'm sure someone else would be interested in your fixtures that are in great shape from the looks of it.

I too wasn't impressed by Falling Waters either. I felt that his ego preceded him and although he tried to invoke the Japanese concept of integration with nature, I felt like his structure tried to conquer nature (thus why it has structural problems. )

I was thinking "this sounds nifty, I have a fireplace!" and remembered I have a gas fireplace with a pilot light so I don't have to do this.

Boyfriend stopped buying all his furniture from Ikea when friends would come over and started naming all of the furniture. Ikea is still a guilty pleasure because of it's proximity and price.

There was a GREAT retro orange couch sitting in a salvation army up-county; we were moving into our new home in less than a month and we think "no one really shops here" (it's a store with slim pickings and I didn't think conventional people would appreciate the couch. ) so instead of holding it, we left it there thinking it'll be there within a week or two because we didn't want to rent an expensive truck and drag it up two flights of stairs into our tiny apartment.
When we went back, it was gone. We settled for Ikea's Karlstad sectional which is nice, but it's obviously Ikea (Ever walked into someone's home and go "oh theres the KARLSTAD, VITTSJO, BILLY, KLIPPAN"? We don't want that. )
Also, I hated the ugly Target, lime green curtains the seller left behind so I went with pretty, sheer ivory colored curtains from Walmart (I know, not high scale but looks a lot better now ) I did not double check to make sure all of the curtains were the same length so we have 3 short ones and one long one. It is hidden behind the bed so we'll keep it that way until I find time to whip out the sewing machine. Also, we haven't had the opportunity to put up blinds as well and our bedroom is about 10 - 20 yards from the street- needless to say, I wouldn't doubt it if a few passerbys/neighbors have gotten an eyeful. ;)

My SO is vegan so leather is not an option. We got a cheap ikea Karlstad sectional (sivik green) and my cats have not laid a single claw in it (probably because they're busy with the carpet). My precocious boy cat though has torn to hell and back two faux leather chairs from ikea. He would literally fling his whole body weight into it, claws out, scratching them to smithereens even shifting the chairs a few inches (he had a lot of energy to say the least. ) He's calmed down considerably now, but lets just say I don't keep $1k+ furniture where I keep my cats.

Picking The Perfect Couch: The Update

Gotta be rational here- three cats and nice furniture don't mix. You can't really complain about the damage on a couch when cats view virtually any soft vertical surface as a scratching post (legs, chairs, couches...) I recently moved to a 2 story home and have resorted to keeping our two cats in the finished basement. It has a den, and we usually hang out there so it's been fantastic so I don't feel like we're "segregating" my cats other than not being able to sleep with my cats. My nicer dark blue MCM sofa is upstairs- cat hair and scratch free and completely marvelous. We have a cheaper green karlstad sectional in the den and I'm really surprised my cat hasn't resorted to ripping this couch to shreds. Cat hair everywhere but the medium color actually don't make the hair noticeable. Water stains do show, but the covers and removable. I got a little primer on the couch and immediately hand washed it- good as new!
