I did one last year, inspired by the Photosanity class. I found Shuttercal to be a good low-frills app for keeping track of and (optional) printing the photos.

We have been happy with the iBaby camera and accompanying app on our iPhones and iPads. It doesn't have its own monitor, but if you wanted a separate, dedicated device you could probably get a used iPhone or touch?

All Terrain makes a pump-spray (really more of a squirt lotion) sunscreen that was well-rated in EWG and Safe Mama. The spray application is so much easier on my toddler than cream. I spray several pumps on her arms or legs (not face, I use a clear zinc stick for that) and then rub it around. I'm hoping that the thicker quality of the lotion means it doesn't have the same inhalation risk as the sprays featured above, but that may just be hope against hope. It is greasy but I'm OK with that. It's on Amazon here: http://www.amazon.com/All-Terrain-KidSport-Natural-Sunscreen/dp/B004TSLDWI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1314294187&sr=8-1
And also comes in a more water-resistant formula. And also comes in creams for the more traditional use.

I bought the naturepedic one - luckily so far haven't had much test of its waterproof-ness but it is soft (no plastic crinkle sound) and safe (no plastic, no bad smell, even right out of the package).

Sayer's room was one of my favorites when I was planning my nursery, and it's great to see it updated! Also bought a long-legs bird and bird pillow from klt:works, and it has been a big hit with my daughter! Love the photo with Sayer taking a picture with a toy camera - is that vintage (hoping not)?

I think this website is both a blessing and a curse when you are mid-nervous-breakdown obsessing about the perfect nursery (and I have also been there!). On the one hand, it has such great ideas, but on the other, it could add to your pressure to find the perfect everything, because it seems like everyone else's nursery is perfect and the nesting urge is so strong. Hang in there, it sounds like you have already bought some great stuff (and the big ticket items), and the rest will come, and if it doesn't all get done right away (or at all) it's not the end of the world.

It also is a giant pain when you don't live near an IKEA. You can get Closet Maid shelving that is similar to Expedit (or half of an Expedit) at Lowe's, Home Depot, or Target. Closet Maid also sells fabric bins in fun colors. Target also has cute lamps and rugs. Good luck!

I used the Eddie Bauer Infant Travel Bed (available at Target for $30) on my sofa, and it worked great. We were in the living room all the time anyway. For bed use, I think your bed would need to be pretty big to fit a travel bed and parent, especially two parents. There are "snuggle nests" made for use in the bed (available on Amazon); those might be easier to fit parent and baby.

I would love lens advice too! Particularly, I would love to know what lens to use to get a photo in which the subject is clear but everything right behind the subject is blurry.

I agree that it depends on whether you are a worrier or not. I am, and I LOVED the Angelcare. You can just glance at the parent unit and see the little metronome ticking that tells you it is detecting the baby's breathing, and many a time that glance was enough to get me back to sleep. I also agree you should not use it as an excuse to violate any of the SIDS rules, especially with thick bumpers (also love the breathable baby mesh bumper). I stopped using the monitor when my daughter began to really roll around in the crib, around 8 months or so, which would make the monitor beep (and occasionally go to full alarm). At that point it was costing me more sleep than I was gaining, but those first few months it was the best device in the whole wide world.

I always have a cool mist humidifier running in the nursery. Can't prove whether it helps, but I figure it can't hurt in the dry climate where we live. Crane makes some really cute ones. I have the penguin:
