Pop ups have been around for ever. I don't see the big deal with this one except it only looks like a tent. Most of them are a bit more substantial. And, if you're military or civil service, you can usually rent one from your base for about $10 for an entire weekend.

That's so funny--I think Martha Stewart had a craft on how to make a box for this purpose.

But that's a great idea. The ribbon box is nice and sturdy.

Ooooh. Can't wait for the canning guide.

What about a discussion on easy, healthy casseroles? Or maybe a discussion on how to incorporate nuts into your fall and winter diet.

We do tenderloins in the oven all the time. We usually rub them with a mixture of dried herbs, a squirt of honey, smushed garlic and a bunch of Zatarain's Creole Mustard.

Yum.

Maybe it's just the closet redneck in me, but I thought it would be fun to make vases out of the two 32 oz cans of Miller HighLife a friend gave me.

I mean, gold is a neutral suited for any decor, right?

I'm something called Winter Sky.

It isn't just awful. It does say if I wear it or surround myself with the color, I'll infuse my life with faith and magic. Which is nice.

Awww. Reminds me of being a kid. And subjecting these poor things to the heat from a lit lightbulb to make them jump.

cakekick,

As others have said, whole almonds work great. Just make sure you buy raw ones (not already toasted).

The Naked Chef also has a good recipe for a spicy version. You can do however you like, though. He "fries" the almonds in a skillet with a bit of olive oil. Then, sprinkle them with whatever you like. Sea salt and red pepper flakes are great. Adding coriander is good, too.

Serve hot. Perfect company munchies. Go great with beer!

I swear. There is just NO love out there for folks with textured plaster walls. No decals or anything will stick to my walls.

Which are already nice in their own right. But I'd like a little variety.

Anyone else have a similar issue and a fab solution?

I stand by a sharp knife to peel (I assume we mean the husk, not the tiny membranous layer between the husk and the actual garlic).

I cut right at the end and then use the knife like a lever to pull the husk away. Usually comes off in one easy movement.

As far as alternative for a press, I either pound the clove with the flat of my knife or use my mortar and pestle. I try not to beat it to death either way so I don't lose too much of the lovely oil.

Roasting: cut the top 1/4 off of an unpeeled head. Rub it with olive oil. Put it face down on a lightly oiled cookie sheet. Pop into a 250 degree oven for like 2 hours.

When it cools, squeeze the good stuff out like butter. Keeps airtight for two or three days. I'm always tempted to just eat it right out of the husk.

I've read a few posts on the site about using a paste of baking soda to clean out your oven.

How effective is this method?

Does anyone have additional recommendations? Kitchen week is looming...

Maybe a recipe please :-) I too have CSA tomatoes to use this week. Hopeful to make a sauce and freeze it.

Agree that pre-made cider in the South is more super thick, super thick apple juice than anything else.

But for the actual winter (winter, that's funny. We don't really have one.), I have two friends that do alternatives--one has a good recipe for mulled wine, and the other has a KNOCK.OUT. recipe for hot buttered rum.

I'll dig and see if I can find the recipes to share.

You make the hot buttered rum in a crock pot. SO good.

Antique books -- how to display?

Sea shells, etc. (found) -- how to display?

Chiffon scarves -- how to display? (I can't figure out how to wear them either. So pretty!)

Money from around the world -- how to display?

Pottery and glass -- random mish mash

Want: more old postcards, Walter Anderson art, more pottery, more glass (esp vintage perfume bottles), more vintage costume jewelry.

Mella DP--
I have a few maps, too. Mine are watercolors of places I've lived. Some done of what the place looked like 100s of years ago. I've been wanting to hang my favorite one with other objects from the same place, like a postcard, snapshots, etc. Kind of to tell the whole story.

You could do the map plus two or three other things to make a "place" and then hang several places together. Like your own songline, so to speak.

hejiranyc:

Hiring a search firm would undermine AT's wanting to find someone that already understood their brand and mission. Who fills that role better than existing readers.

And why would you think people on this blog--aka new media vehicle--wouldn't have experience with other new media? Is it such a stretch to think there are people who read this blog and possibly have their own, as well? Or you know, work in communications?

Something tells me AT knows what they're doing. They didn't become this prolific by being dunces.
