Okay, First of all you need a sofa and two small end tables with reading lamps on your empty wall in the living room. With art above it. No art budget? Buy two small canvases and paint them to hang above your sofa. Just do it simply, it will look great. That's your first purchase.

2nd purchase will involve a carpenter. You need to commission a carpenter to build a mirror image of your current room divider/hutch and apply a wood o backing to your shelves and the bottom back of the pieces as well.

Eventually, when you decide to get rid of your television which is ancient, you can mount your new flatscreen to the top surface, which will provide a proper place for your television. To hide the wiring, you build a box across the back of your hutch, open to the wall side and this is where you run your wiring through to the wall. Don't forget to put decorative elements in your shelving. I like glass pieces in all one color. That way you can build your collection slowly and it looks cohesive.

I have a cleaning lady that comes once a month. For $75 it is completely worth it! I had to cut out some other things but I will never give this up.

Brown would be boring, I think an orange with some yellow would be nice, not a true orange, more of a mustard orange. Be careful, yellows can get tricky, but I think it would look lovely with your pops of orange, in your decor, whereas simply orange would make the traditional mirrored piece you have look out of place and you would loose the lovely orange pops. Most definitely paint the entire room. In this space it will look unfinished if you do not.

Also, we need to go shopping for a ceiling fixture for you.

Can you afford to switch out the cabinetry? I am not sure how good those cabinets wood look painted.

I can't believe i am saying this, but the cabinets would be lovely in black. ( I usually hate dark cabinets.) I would go with a shabby chic look creamy distressed wood floor, make sure it coordinates with the tile on the wall or a little lighter. A roman shade possibly linen or cotton in a solid color for your window, and modernize your pulls.

Paint your wall a lighter shade of white or cream that coordinates with the tile and do marble countertops in Carrera.

You need to paint. A lovely safe -not too bright mustard for the kitchen, and a greenish blue, (not teal-too bright) on the living room wall. Have a friend with wall color choice experience or choose a color similiar this wall:

or http://www.nateberkus.com/portfolio.php?id=109]

Make sure your contrasting paints have the same hue saturation and they will coordinate beautifully. Now add more artwork and a small hall table for a landing strip (perhaps you have one in another room already.) Get rid of that dark wood lamp on your buffet and replace with a metallic version for a pop of color. As for the television, throw it out and wall mount an lcd (the tv and stand are too low for that wall. It makes your space look squat.) and put some lovely higher focal point groupings on your former tv stand such as vases w/flowers, books, accessories that mean something to you. Give your home some LOVE...

It has to be Kelly or Hunter.
The comments about the two light colors competing
are 100% correct.

It will also pop WAY to much to do it those limey colors and
not in a good way. Since your neighbor is not painting
there door you don't want it to look like you only painted half the house.

Seriously-stay away from lime. A house is not a dress.

Truthfully with that lovely gutter looking thing next to the wall and with the casement extending to to the ceiling trim I think you have to mount on it.

I would just say-hey guys, theres this stuff called wood putty and you can paint right over it.

I would use woven woods so nothing melts or catches fire
in a shade scenario and I would paint that heater a lovely accent color or black to make it a focal point.

When its painted white it makes it look like someone tried to camouflage the heater to no avail.

Same color as the walls baby.
You also need to buy some big, long drapes for that window
so that it doesn't look so squat.
Don't move the bed over. then you have no access to the
closets. Be careful with sage green. Get second opinions and come up with a couple of options. That color can go country granny or hospital room in about 2 seconds.

The "frat" party part of Mardi Gras in the Quarter is for
tourists. Those of us who are locals and dignified stay
uptown and watch the parades and bring the kids out to
catch beads and stuffed animals. It's a time to have
your family in town and backyard party's with the neighbors and go to a ball or two. (Which usually benefit
a charity I might add.)

The U.S. wide perception of our celebration is unfortunate.
Its almost like thinking that in New York on New Year's
the only acceptable thing to do is stand in times square
and freeze to death and watch a big ball drop.

Ah, ignorance and prejudice....

Also get rid of those end pillows and get 2 accent pillows in a
grey, blue, white, or black and white stripe.
Stay classy and simple, that will help anchor the pattern and letting your mod pop.

light grey-blue.
No warm greys, that will make it look
industrial instead of soothing with these colors, don't do navy, that's just way to dark. Stick with light to medium toned blue greys.

Also, same kitty--pooper, knocks over any glasses with liquid in them if you leave them unattended for 30 seconds. She has kitty radar or something. She also cries and cries anytime you go in the kitchen that she's hungry. (I don't feed her except at mealtimes and have never.)

My cat was great for six years and now she has started to poop on the floor next to her clean, non-scented litter, which is well-lit, and has no cover.

It is infuriating.
