I still use my email acct from 1997 for registering at websites. I've switched to gmail for my personal and work stuff, so I'm not really attached to the address anymore. I've recently started wondering whether or not I should "purge" my internet identity and start over, though. (new ID, new password everything for only the sites I actually use)

- Paint the bookshelves in cafe-au-lait color. Replace the knobs to vintage glass ones. Don't paint anything else.

- Replace the carpet!!!! You need something larger and brighter. Light Persian, or plain sisal if you want modern.

- Replace wall sconces above the fireplace

- Replace the painting with a mirror, or a brighter and bigger artwork

- Get matching covers for window seat, and rocking chair seat

- Get new cushions.

- I would suggest slip covering the taupe chair.

PLEASE THINK ABOUT THE TYPE OF YOUR FUTURE BUYER BEFORE YOU DO ANTHING.

Do you think your potential buyers are the type of buyers who can afford (and would like) to do a gut-renovation of the entire house or the kitchen? This depends on the price and neighborhood of the home. And when you move, will you be moving within the area? (ie. Are you willing to take the appliances)

If this is a small-ish starter home in a not so prestigious neighborhood, your future buyers probably don't want to do a gut-reno, so you should probably do some reno for them and bump up the resale value. If not, don't spend too much $ on the kitchen, but spend the $ on appliances that you can take with you.

Painted cabinets might look bad in five years esp if not done by professionals. Keep the tabs low by staining cabinets and getting new SS pulls for now. But spluge on the SS appliances and a new countertop.

I say keep them. They are quality pieces but you probably won't be able to get a lot of money for them off craigslist.

Can you separate the desk and the hutch? They will be more versatile that way.

I think the desk will look gorgeous painted black. Replace the top with a slab of marble, and change the knobs.

I don't think having a glass-topped desk (look at those sharp corners) is a good idea when they have a toddler in the house....

All three are classic timeless pieces, but two chairs are too similar to each other. Ideally, I would pair the sofa with a tufted leather chair. I love the persian carpet and tufted leather furniture's "lux library" look.

If getting a different club chair isn't a possibility, maybe you want to find a similr sofa without a skirt to make things a bit more interesting?

It's fine as it is, but if you varied the styles a bit, it would be better.

There was a post here on AT a couple days ago where the owner painted the wall above her kitchen cabinets in bright kelly green. It was gorgeous, without making things overwhelming. You might want to try it with a gorgeous blue for a POP. Your high ceilings would make it absolutely amazing.

I had my own bedroom and shared bathroom from age 7-13.
Enter boarding school.
Sharing rooms, sharing bathrooms. I didn't think much of it though. Didn't have a hard time transitioning at all. And now eight years of dorm life has practically trained me to be one of the most versatile "i can live with anyone" roommate candidates.

I think you need to pick a lighter countertop or change the wall color to a cooler yellow.

Don't paint the cabinets, replace the top sliding doors to frosted glass, and pick one of these two options:

Lighter Cream/white based countertop current warm yellow
Current cool dark grey countertop cooler yellow

Definitely add some knobs, I suggest adding them at the dead center on the bottom.
Super long and straight modern knobs hung horizontally in bottom center, if you want to go modern. Classic round knobs with character (I saw some good ones from the link suggested above) if you want classic.

Such a realistic before and after!

The before looks realistic, the after has the same amount of normal day to day clutter, and even more :)

Leaving the backsplash white was a good choice. The pop of green draws the eye up to the ceiling level. I love it!!!!

Regarding dorm room bedding.

1.

I cannot reccomend this enough!!!!!

BUY A WOODEN SLATTED MATTRESS BASE FROM IKEA
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60079788

and put this under the mattress. Springs attached to dorm beds are horrible and are unable to support the mattress properly. Put this under the mattress, and put a memory foam topper on top.

2.

Invest in a fluffy QUEEN sized comforter and good duvets.
None of the bed-in-a-bag flimsy stuff with cheap comforters and synthetic sheets.
You will be able to use your comforter and duvet for a long time after college if you buy queen instead of twin. And they fill so much more luxurious :)

I live in a converted two bedroom apt, and the most we've had so far was seven. (four girls slept on my roommate's full sized mattress, I have no idea how, me and my friend slept on my full sized mattress, her bf crashed in the livingroom)

More the merrier, as long as they clean up after themselves and are somewhat self sufficient.
