The way any database search flashes up each record as it searches through. Hey, tv forensic database programmers, you'll get much faster performance if you don't draw each record on screen! And maybe try indexing instead of random records.

Imagine if google had decided the way to go was to parse through and display every web page on the fly when anyone searched :D

Oh Marsala! I thought it was going to be a chicken masala! I wondered what the mushrooms were up to.

Handwash gel on a paper tissue makes a great screen cleaner. (It's not a germaphobe thing, it's a getting rid of greasy smears thing.)

iPhone 1...turns out that just because there is a kitchen timer app, it doesn't mean it's a good idea to use your iPhone as a kitchen timer. When making toffee. It kind of survived getting butter and melted sugar under the screen, but not my attempts to fix it.
iPhone 2...was the replacement for iPhone 1. One day it froze and never came back. Replaced under warranty with...
iPhone 3...which developed a fault in the proximity sensor so the speaker never came on. Replaced again under warranty with...
iPhone 4, which I left in a zipcar and the person after me stole. And looked me in the eye and swore they hadn't had it, despite being the only person after me to hire the car. Was due an upgrade so bought iphone 5 which has so far survived 9 months ...
Then found out iphone 4 was insured (yay me for forgetting to the cancel the policy when the free cover ran out) so claimed iPhone6 and gave it to bf for Xmas

iphone1 which I managed to get fixed by a local shop and lives on as the music player in the shed.

Score...2 failed, 1 stolen, 1 revived, 2 still alive

It probably will be as good as a hard helmet, given how minimal the protection helmets give is. There are an awful lot of things the average cyclist can do that will make far bigger improvements to their safety than wear a plastic hat - I wish the media would focus on those things. Oh, but I gues just saving lives is too dull if there isn't any product to push.

I've done my bathroom in dark stained plywood which is gloss finished using yacht varnish. It's just basic building grade but I chose pieces with interesting grain. I love how it looks: deep and luxurious but a little harshness from the striped edges.

I am guessing you are in the UK, is that right?

It's hard to suggest anything without knowing a bit more about your style and how you plan to use the table. is yours the same finish? How many people do you need to sit regularly and occasionally? Will you keep the table unfolded or folded? Do you like new or vintage, and if it's vintage do you like as-new or a bit beaten up?

I have an Ercol casual dining set I inherited from my gran which I love. Without knowing much about what you want, I'd say keep an eye on eBay and look out for the lower backed Windsor chairs, maybe even two chairs and two stools. I wouldn't get the higher backed chairs unless they will be beside a wall as all that wood and curves does clutter up sight lines.

The shape of these is great, but not sure the wood colours would work if yours is the same as the picture.

This isn't about stuff, it's about calm. A grown up home is one where the ups and downs of life don't become emergencies because the people who live in the house have experienced ups and downs before so they know to plan for them. That might mean having spare batteries or clean linen to put up a guest at short notice, but it might equally well mean not running a car because you can only just afford it so any major repair is a big expense for you. It definitely means you have the number of a plumber without having to find one in the yellow pages using one hand with your other thumb over a leak (though you probably originally found him in the yellow pages with your thumb over a leak!)

I have guest linen and no car :) we do our own plumbing though...

I often make tomato soup with star anise as a substitute for basil (olive oil, onions, garlic, tin of tomatoes, star anise, vegetarian stock)

I had the same problem this year so I downloaded a basic month-per-page calendar, and me and my boyfriend picked 6 pics each to fill it. Ours is a mixture of random photos and stuff from the internet but if you want something a bit more designer I think you could do something very cool with out-of-copyright images from the public domain vintage image sites

A modern full width rear extension contrasting with a victorian house is very desirable in the UK - we like our period buildings but we also like the kitchen diner opening to the garden. I can see exactly why someone with London-tuned style would choose something like this.

My bedroom is painted dark grey with white woodwork and ceiling and a mixture of chinoiserie and wooden furniture. I love the contrast of white and dark and the way the wood glows against the grey. (And the way it makes beaten up old furniture look like aged heirlooms)

love reading. don't care either way about piles of paper, but £/sq ft in London makes piles of dead paper a luxury so e-book all the way. All I need now is a safe way to read e-books in the bath - galaxy tab projector anyone?

this is a gorgeous kitchen, but where does the food go? I can't see anywhere to store dry stuff like cereals, pasta, spices etc unless it's all in the drawers, in which case where do the pans and utensils live?

I ordered an ikea sofa, but when I got home I panicked that it wouldn't fit in. So I did some maths and that proved it wouldn't fit in. But then I thought "hang on, if I pivot it here wouldn't that make it possible?" But my maths wasn't that good so I built a little scale model of the sofa and opening in cardboard and it showed the sofa would fit. But then I thought "ok, that works for the door opening, but there's a wall there that would restrict how far the sofa can move"...so I built the wall into the model and now the sofa wouldn't fit :(. But then I thought "well I've made it a solid wall but it's not, there's a staircase here -maybe that will give us enough space"...

And when my boyfriend got home that evening he found I'd made a miniature version of our whole hallway in cardboard and sticky tape. Which was weird enough. Even weirder was that I'd made it a mirror image - in scale, but completely reversed.

Ikea cancelled the order in the end so I never knew if the sofa would have fit.
