I know another artist who does similar work, making landscapes out of folded and stacked clothes.

Wow, I'm glad I'm not in the same social circle as many of the commenters on this post! The way I see it, wine glasses are fragile things that tend to be broken, and it's not like a pricey glass makes the wine taste any better. I see wine glasses as practically disposable, and tend to buy a bunch when I find them on sale. But most glasses in my house are seen as disposable, because I have dogs with sweeping tails who have swiped many a glass off a coffee table. I would NEVER expect a friend to replace a broken wineglass. Things like that just happen, and I value relationships over things.

Would be more impressed if they collected various printed editions of "Ode on a Grecian Urn" and cut it out of those.

bepsf: If you're concerned about the ziplocks, may I suggest a wrap-n-mat:

or perhaps a reusable bag from this etsy seller: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=24279249

I go to the grocery store once every two weeks for my major stock-up, and only pop in, with a list, if I need things in between the bi-weekly trips, like coffee, yogurt, bread, and milk. It's saved me a lot of money! Also, I always brew my own coffee and take it with me-- if you get a coffee maker with a timer, it's easy to set it the night before, while you're cleaning up after dinner.

I have a garbage disposal but only use it rarely. I have a compost bucket next to the sink, and that's where most of my scraps end up.

To combat the smell issue, I stick a piece of lemon in the disposal every now and again.

I didn't give up a food item-- I gave up the elevator. I work on the fourth floor, don't exercise nearly as often as I should, and figured I should really take the stairs more often. Maybe by the end of it I can get up to my office without huffing and puffing. I try to make my time on the stairs a spiritual exercise by practicing thankfulness for my body and its abilities, as well as by pondering my physicality and mortality, both of which have a lot to do with the idea of Lent.

A friend once walked into my kitchen and said it reminded him of a Target commercial...I took it as a compliment. While the walls and cabinets are bright white, and the floor is classic checkerboard, my mixer, my tea kettle, my coffee maker, my microwave, my knives, my pots and pans, and many of my dish cloths/towels are red.

I have a weird and indescribable system of side-selection that involves proximity to doors and windows, neither of which I want to be near, but in a pinch, I'll sleep closer to the window than the door. I'm not sure when I developed this mysterious system, but it means that in our bedroom, I sleep on the right, but in other bedrooms, who knows. My husband lets me claim my side first when we stay at hotels or in someone else's home. He does claim that no matter what side I choose, I somehow end up sleeping in the smack middle of the bed.

I just got a new job that allows me to take the bus to work. I love it! It's so nice to be able to read, or even to look out the window and see things in my city that I never saw before while I was focused on driving.

What about going to a countertop maker and asking for a marble remnant? Often they'll give that sort of thing away for free!

We have about a bag a week, and a full blue recycling bin every two weeks. We also compost in our own back yard. Our family is two humanfolk and one puppygirl.

I bet it would be cool with the junk mail! Or torn up magazines! Mine was made with paper that was 3 in. squares, for reference.

I've been making origami Christmas ornaments this year. First a bunch of cranes in various patterned paper heavy on the reds and greens, and then I got inspired to make a bunch of tiny cubes and string them up like a garland. This is a YouTube someone else made of the same type of cubes I folded: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suR150bNqUU

Here are some pics of my origami ornaments/garland: http://s707.photobucket.com/albums/ww80/effeffpics/Origami/

Love it! My dad used to go all out for Halloween. So far all I've got is a pumpkin. But since I'm in Charleston, SC, I'm tempted to head over to Evita and Michael's house to see this awesomeness in person!
