Thanks, jtfries - I really like the West Elm ones, too. That may work, but I'd have to really think about how dirty the white part would get :) My kids are a mess!

mere1975 - I think you might be right about the blue.

babsmith726 - If we go with a comforter, that may be perfect!

Love the suggestions, keep 'em coming!

Thank you, everyone! All your suggestions have been helpful. I never thought about dyeing some, but would wonder with how much I'd wash them -- would they fade or bleed?

That Land of Nod one looks so comfortable and not too thick, which is important where we live.

How is the material on the IKEA one? Does it pill? Is it soft? I guess for that price, it's hard to complain.

Walls don't really get that dirty (nothing a little Magic Eraser can't erase). Things like bedding, rugs, sofas...now THOSE get dirty with kids!

I got suckered into one of these. I plan on refilling it with their foaming refill.

This show is absolutely ridiculous and it makes me sad that some parents are actually LIKE that. What ever happened to just enjoying being pregnant & savoring time with a newborn? All they do for the first couple months is eat, poop, cry & sleep. There, that's all you need to know.

That being said, of course I watch it ;)

No, don't get foam anything. My kid bit them and I worried about choking, and they were a PITA to clean & keep together. Either get a rug, or invest in some baby legwarmer things :)

Hi Lisa!
I got these for my kid's room and it's perfect because it's something that takes up space and has a purpose, but won't come crashing down.

I LOVE your quilt and bed spindle combo. I will say, however, when I saw OB I couldn't help but giggle thinking of mine ;)

That plexiglass is a great idea! I would try that, but I could see that going awry in my house, too, because it's not heavy enough or it would get knocked off. I'd probably just look for a used round wooden table or upholstered ottoman and use that for a few yrs. Not worth the worry of the kids' safety OR your gorgeous table.

When in a hotel, I just roll up an extra blanket (or pillows) and stick them under the fitted sheet as a bumper :)

These responses were wonderful birth control for me! haha! I remember those early days (and late nights) all too well...

When I visit a new mom, besides food, I demand she goes back to her room, not visit with me, then take a nap. Best gift ever.

I think the home is beautiful. I'm sure others here will disagree, because it's not perfectly modern...but it looks like a lovely place to live (and grow up) filled with love.

Kirsty, I love how it's eclectic without really trying. It's like you just went with things you love -- not because they're "in style" right now. Refreshing and timeless.

Oh my goodness. That is so much for a stroller. A STROLLER. And you probably can't even fit through aisles or fit in your car...what's the point?! If anyone has two kids, I still say the Phil & Ted's is the only way to go, and it's still a bit $$$.

Fantastic job! And cleverly put together...I love the eclectic mix of patterns, and it's not matchy in a trying-to-be-not-matchy-but-it's-obvious way :)

Original hardwood floors are gorgeous, but this really does look amazing. It's just another way of expressing herself through decor. Maybe the floor couldn't be refinished again...who knows or cares. It really does look great. Wow.

You yourself said they are, "too busy to have any sort of diapering system" so your moral dilemma #3 shouldn't be a dilemma or problem at all. It's not an option for them. I say get the eco-friendly disposables and celebrate their #2. Someone is taking the time to throw a shower and spending their money to feed/entertain you and celebrate the baby. The least you can do is attend. BUT, if you can't do so happily & willingly, don't go and stop by with a different gift after the baby arrives.

Another thought, is your child allergic to something in the air which is causing the congestion? Or the mold?

A different option to possibly help the congestion without moisture is an air purifier. We recently got a Rabbit Air Purifier and it was the best investment.

Of course, you do need to do all the things mentioned above to check for mold, but this is another option to consider.

I think it's important to think about the things YOU loved as a kid. I never grew up in a museum-like home. In our backyard, I was lucky enough to have a workshed-turned-playhouse for me. It was like my own little home, where I could decorate however I wanted and tape pictures of treasures on the walls.

Never once do I remember thinking as a kid: I love how clean and un-cluttered this room is. My favorite spaces were those that had an abundance of things to do, or that were creative.

Parents become way too focused on themselves during their children's childhood and how "they" (the parents) will be portrayed. Let kids be kids. There's nothing wrong with a little bit of color or toys when you have children. It's all about balance.
