@mimee, how about good old fashioned gravy? Or for a healthier alternative, sauteed veggies.

According to www.stilltasty.com, it has a shelf life of two years for best quality.

I made bran muffins earlier tonight with molasses and applesauce as sweeteners.

gussiebuns, was thinking the same thing. I wonder if almond milk would work. Will have to try it!

Margaret here, wow, thanks for all the great suggestions!

And my apologies if I offended anyone, I should have been more specific. I am indeed (and should have classified myself as) a pescetarian; the only animal product I consume is an occasional piece of fish.

And deneph, I can definitely relate to the curry powder incident. Can't wait to try some of these ideas!

I've tried multiple litter boxes, a litter attractor, the Feliway diffuser, treats after using the box, and (first and foremost) ruling out a medical issue.

The only thing I've tried that I don't see mentioned here is Rescue Remedy, a plant-based stress reducer that comes in a little bottle with a dropper. My vet recommended four drops a day on my cat's forehead so she could "self dose" by rubbing the spot with her paw and licking it to reduce the bathroom anxiety her litter mate was causing her.

It definitely helped her anxiety when I was on vacation, and it seems to help with the potty issue.

Dates and figs are two different fruits from two different trees.

Both can be served ripe or dried, but a date is a date and a fig is a fig.

Dates have a central pit (like olives) and are smooth, sticky, and very sweet. Figs are plumper and full of seeds (think Fig Newtons).

My dad loves the huge tubs of date from warehouse stores, so I'm always looking for things to do with dates, going to try this!

Never had to deal with rust, but I once left a greasy croissant on my "kashmir white" granite for several hours. I soaked a cloth in acetone, put it over the stain, covered it with plastic wrap and taped the wrap to the counter, then left it overnight. It actually worked pretty well at leeching out the grease.

Now I use a sponge and general cleaner for drops and splatters and follow that with Method's granite cleaner and a microfiber cloth, never streaks.

One of my favorite organic delis makes a fabulous BBQ brisket with ginger cole slaw panini on focaccia bread. The meat resembles pulled pork style BBQ, and the sauce is tangy and sweet, I bet you could do the same with the trimmings depending on how meaty they are.

I use my waffle iron as a panini press if I don't want to wait for them to press it, works great.

Three days after moving into my Manhattan apartment, I looked out the window early one morning to see a neighbor across the street looking out as well.

Only she was naked.

It was my "welcome to NYC" moment.

I'm another owner with cats that love tin foil. I'm also really lucky in that they leave my (many) plants alone for the most part. A loud clap and a firm "NO" has worked up to this point. I've also tried citrus oil, but I think they're getting used to it.

You could try a perfume sample from a magazine tucked into the plant, although then you'd have to smell it too.

I've been using the sawtooth, poster strips, velcro type, you name it, for years and I love them. As TravelingRae said, you have to follow the directions exactly, and I check them every so often to make sure they're not coming loose. They've allowed me to hang sheer roller shades from my cement ceiling and all my artwork--all of it; in fact, the only thing I don't have on command strips are shelves.

I find this really moving and I wonder how each item affected the artist's emotional state. I remember my mother's reactions as we went through my grandmother's things (my mother has hoarding issues) and how simple objects could produce powerful emotional responses, so I wonder how that translates to such an enormity of stuff.

I went from Battery Park City in NYC to Mission Bay in SF and found they're both oddly similar in a planned community kind of way, but I wound up settling in Hayes Valley. It's convenient to pretty much everywhere via public transportation, it's urban enough while relatively safe (it's still a city after all), and it's close to the Financial District and Golden Gate Park.

That said, I would definitely not move here without job offers in hand, as others have said. Also, a back yard will be somewhat difficult (read expensive) to come by, but Duboce Park is very dog friendly--I'd say San Francisco is more dog friendly overall compared to NY.

While you'll have to get used to bringing a jacket with you in August at night, it's certainly nothing compared to a NY winter. And don't be surprised when you look at places that don't have air conditioning, you really don't need it.

Basically, if you can afford it and find employment, San Francisco is a fantastic place to live, and I definitely prefer it over New York. Check out www.socketsite.com for some insight into the current real estate market.

One of my best investments as a single woman living alone was a ladder. It sounds strange, but it's so useful, from changing lightbulbs to hanging art/shelves to painting to cleaning to putting extra staples (like toilet paper) away on high shelves, it's something I'm always glad I own, along with my tool kit (another must have).

I love living alone, and since I don't own a car, I use Safeway.com for grocery delivery once every two weeks or so (with trips to the local grocer/farmers market in between). When I lived on the east coast and had a car, I got hit with a heavy snow storm with almost no food/tp in the house, so now, even though we don't get snow in San Francisco (but we do get earthquakes--always have 72 hours' worth!), I over stock the basics.

I purposefully cook more than I can eat then freeze the leftovers in individual portions for those nights I just don't want to cook.

I work from home too, so having a pet or two makes a huge difference--and they prompt me to clean probably more often than if it were just me.

I thought a lot of the cattier comments he said on the show looked staged. Granted, he still said them, but I'm sure the producers encouraged him. It's reality TV, after all.

I did, however, love it when he said "I work for the best!" (Martha Stewart, because she IS the best.)

The tone on his blog shows none of EvilEddie, and I visit it regularly and enjoy it.
