Art. To me that doesn't mean just having great museums or galleries I can go to on occasion. Seeing art needs to be an organic, effortless part of my day. Whether it's a new sculpture, street art or murals it needs to be free and ever-changing. I drive past three sculpture gardens and ten or twenty murals during my 15 minute commute.
Beauty. I don't care if it's desert, ocean, mountains or woods. I just need a beautiful backdrop.
Entrepreneurial Spirit. A community that supports an eclectic and eccentric mix of small businesses and says "Sure. Why not?"
Diversity. I grew up in an all white Vermont farming community and it never occurred to me until I moved to the south how awesome and enriching it is to have friends of all races and ethnicities.
Urban Revival. My city isn't spreading out and away, it's condensing to become more pedestrian friendly. The downtown buildings are being renovated and returned to their former glory, not bulldozed. It feels like history returning to life.
In one word- Chattanooga, TN. I love it here so much.

What Do You Look for in a Hometown?

Guilty as charged! I am a Facebook over-sharer. I only have about 80 friends on Facebook, all of whom I know fairly intimately. I don't add people who I don't want to share with so I think the problem solves it's self. My friends and I joined Facebook for the same reason- we live far apart and want to share our lives with each other. So, yeah. If someone has a heavy period and needs a home remedy-we talk about it. If someone wants to vent or needs advice about work, sex, family, relationships, home births, politics, divorces-we talk about it. I have to censor myself at work and often around my family so I refuse to "watch what I say" on Facebook.

I agree with threeacres. A nice clean green color for accents and bright trim would be beautiful. Accessorize with sliver, gold and porcelain.

I begrudgingly moved from my downtown 300 sq ft studio with rooftop garden to a 900 sq dupelx in the 'burbs and couldn't be happier. I used to carry buckets of water up two flights of stairs to water my veggies. Now, I just turn on my hose! I also rigged up a Hillbilly Shower using tin and scrap wood. I stick my hose with spray nozzle attachment into a little notch in the wood and BAM low budget outdoor shower. You can't select the temperature, but when it's 104 in the summer, somehow the water is always just right. As an added bonus, my landlord mows the grass for us. I just come home to a perfect yard every day!
