In VAIN. Sorry. I think I might be better off in a landscape forum or something like that - or maybe PAVING it is the solution!

WOW! Thanks, everyone. I think I should have phrased my question differently.

What I have been searching for in vein is a landscape solution for sharing a yard. The dogs run the perimeter, so the grass is trashed. I've tried growing grass, but it doesn't work. The back yard is a mess - not because of the poop, but because of the dogs pacing and squirrel chasing, and the crappy dirt and non existent grass.

And I do clean up after the dogs! Why does that keep coming up?

SO. I am really looking for something akin to a landscape solution - or an idea that allows us to carve out space for the dogs to pace and run and do their thing, and a place for Carly to play in her pool.

Maybe there isn't one - but thanks for all of your input.

Hey Robinm! We don't share a yard with anyone - so that isn't an issue - sorry you had a bad experience with an uncourteous neighbor. I like to think I'm pretty good in that area! It's important, especially when we're in such confined spaces.

I also think I need to accept that with a cat, and two dogs and a toddler, there is a lot of poop around. Like you said, mamaceli, it's part of living with animals.

I did a VERY busy room:

And ended up using green gingham from PBK - I thought it would be too precious, but I ended up loving it.
