My favorite thing in this house is "Le Pouple Colossal"! I want one (the drawing, that is)!

I looked it up on the internet & found out (per wikipedia) its a "pen and wash drawing by malacologist Pierre Dénys de Montfort, 1801, from the descriptions of French sailors reportedly attacked by such a creature off the coast of Angola."

Apparently a malacologist is someone who studies mollusks. Who knew?

I think this room is kind of adorably chaotic!

I have an idea - what about floor-to-ceiling drapes along one wall? You can stuff all his things behind it and it would look really streamlined and dramatic.
Shelves would be great, but those cost $$ (ie more than drapes)and it's not like you're a couple who split expenses.

Tell your roommate you saw it in a magazine & you think it would look cool in your space.

What about yellow curtains for a shock of color?

The grey feeling of the room (the paint color and the light) reminded me of a room none other than Julianne Moore decorated in an issue of Domino. She used these yellow drapes which I think would look great in your room. I went searching for a photo and found it right here on this site.

As a native Mainer, I get a warm feeling looking at these photos. I love the pinecones and the stack of logs.
