When hunting for a new sofa I came up with a useful trick in assessing quality: Look on craigslist and google images for pics of the (used) sofa in question. It's useful to see how they end up looking after a few years in a real house in a real picture that's not doctored up to look pretty. I found that Ikea sofas don't seem to hold up well -- many images I saw showed saggy cushions and the upholstery doesn't seem to hold up well. For this reason, I ended up going with a different brand.

I plan on converting this recipe to a tart. I'm probably going to add a bit more flour/butter to the crust and bit more cranberry to the curd so that I can get it to fill two 9'' tart pans. Other than that, it should be tart ready.

I am in the middle of building these shelves right now! Putting it together has not been easy for me though. I am having a really hard time getting all the legs to end up the same height. Screwing them together adds a slight offset, making the board sit on the supports un-evenly.

Any tips for this part? Thanks!!

It looks like you have painted a mural of birch trees reminiscent of Cole and Sons famous wallpaper in your second bedroom. I love it! I am planning to do the same thing in my home. Do you have any tips? I am thinking of using a projector. If that's what you did, where did you find your image? Still looking for one that will be large enough...

I used a waffle iron to cook thin slices of tofu once. It was fantastic.

i have found that cinnamon is a miracle repellent for ants and termites. surprisingly, it works much better than any toxic pesticide.

i also just re-caulked all the crevices in my bathroom to eliminate bug problems. this has been very effective.

Haha. I'm the poster of this question and that is definatly NOT my door. The one in question is an ugly white one that needs no royal treatment. I'm new to this whole home improvment thing so I'm afraid I don't have all the resources to do this properly. Though it might not be the most efficent, I think I might have to sand it. Though, is buying a circular saw worth it? Do those of you who have one find ways to use it often? If so maybe I'll go and get one. Thanks for the tips!

How Do I Fix My Front Door? Good Questions | Apartment Therapy San Francisco

a couple things to look out for:

1. Noise. Usually when you're hunting for a place you're nervous, stressed, and excited all at once. In this frantic state, it's hard notice sound levels. Next time you hunt, make a note to spend a moment with your eyes closed and get a sense of the noise environment. You might discover (as I did) that it may be much louder than you thought.

2. Privacy. I was super excited about all the natural light in my current place, but I didn't consider how close in proximity I was to all my neighbors. Every window in my apartment faces another tenants window or doorway. If I want to disrobe, I have pull the blinds on practically every window in the house.

3. THE WATER HEATER!! This one is now one of my top priorities when hunting. In my old place, the water heater looked like a rusted soda can and gave terrible water. My poor hair was flat and dull for an entire year. Then when I moved (to a place with a brand new water heater), it instantly sprang back to life. Never again will I subject my head to such cruelty. Always inspect the water heater.
