i turn it on as soon as i feel cold, if i'm able. but a lot of times in nyc, the building's super decides when the furnace goes on. i think legally they don't have to turn it on until oct 15, or nov 1... clothes, etc go to the local resale place (for $ or trade)- beacon's closet, small houseware things just get put out on the brooklyn corner, and disappear in 24 hours or less. big things go on craigslist. i have one there now! what about a post on storing shoes that are actually in use? i'm moving in two weeks, with about 60 pairs of shoes (of my own, my husband has his own 10-15). since i'm a shoe designer, i actually do wear about 20-30 of them regularly, and i need access to all of them (so that i won't forget what i have!). we live in brooklyn ,and are fortunate to be moving into a new apt with a fair amount of closets, but i am still looking for a storage solution that is easy to access, but takes up the smallest possible about of square footage... any ideas??? i don't! i'm not a huge baker, and i seems to move apartments every 1-2 years... i know i'm supposed to clean it out before the new tenants move in, but i never do. i just forfeit that $25 of my security deposit...
