i mean, puts ONE pillow at the center of each sofa cushion.

i like an assymetrical arrangement. 2 on one corner, 1 on the other. then my mother comes and puts on pillow at the center of each sofa cushion. arrrrrrgh.

the coffeetable arrangement is beautiful. until your cat hops on it during its crazy hour.

My habit is to hang over the folded ironing board or over hooks. At best, I hang on hangers at the back of the bedroom door. The problem with this is that if left for too long, the “worn once and still clean” clothes eventually accumulate dust and become unwearable, thus defeating the purpose of hanging them in the first place. The ideal solution is a portion of a closet, if not a separate closet, which is close to impossible given my square footage.

very pretty and practical but it can be an additional dust-catcher.

i agree with most of the comments - eating off of something that's been under people's feet is a very uncomfortable thought.

yay, very helpful. i was excited to have spotted a really charming cake stand once, thinking it was a hotpot but recoiled when i realized what it really was. i'm going back for it!

i've had a similar experience from next door neighbors at a condominium building. the balcony area was designed poorly in that if not for a low (waist-high) ledge, we practically share one.

they happen to be college students who go to the balcony for fresh air and conversation - loud ones at that! even if they're inside their unit, they are so boisterous and prefer to keep their doors and windows open so we can hear everything.

i can only tolerate their shenanigans til 10pm and after this and still hear their noise, i call the security guard to tell them off. at least to please stop going to the balcony and shut their windows and doors. they do as told but the next night they're at it again. i would tell them off personally but late at night, i'm not dressed decently to knock on a neighbor's door anymore and during daytime they're not around.

i've already drafted a formal letter of complaint to our administration office (noises are definitely a violation of house rules, which i have a copy of) and meant to send it, but thank God, the students are renters and moved out when the school term ended.

these days we have new neighbors who like playing loud music, but it's only during daytime so not as bothersome.

our living room is too narrow so no coffeetable. in its place are one nesting table and a chest that doubles for an end table.

list, list, list. and don't forget to always bring it. also, when in doubt, take a picture, leave and re-assess when you get home.

i didn't know cats can be let out of city apartments such as pics 1-3. they look like buildings along a busy street.

emeryville, i hope not so secure that unwelcome people can climb them ;)

i too am a fabric addict except that i have more ideas than actual finished projects. some of them:

1. make a clock - cover a scrap surface like plyboard and attach clock mechanism behind it.
2. cover an old picture frame with fabric.
3. make simple drapes - hem the fabric and attach to clip rings.
4. clothes hook - cover rectangular plyboard with fabric and screw in round cabinet knobs.
5. line a table with fabric and put glass over it. you can even make a "scrapbook" table top by including photographs and what-have-yous.
6. slipcover anything - baskets that the cat has ruined, ironing board, an old chair, etc.

i can't believe there are so many slipcover haters here. i like using slipcovers to allow the furniture to sport different looks at a whim. it being a dustshield is incidental.

that said, slipcovers work better on pieces that are originally upholstered. in fact, if they are well-done, they won't even look like slipcovers. i'm not too keen on covering up wood, so i'm not exactly a fan of the slipcovers in this picture, whether they be sheer or opaque.

ditto on them looking like wedding reception setup.

@baileyb - in my case, when i layer pattern, i like the effect most of the time but other people think i ran out of stuff that matched.
