I agree with Koikub.
Personally, all my walls with art on it are white. And those white walls with no art on it are "reserve walls" in case I have new art.
:P
My personal opinion is: a great piece of art can beat all the pillows, curtains, sofas in the world ( unless you have a highly sculptural sofa ala noguchi)... you can get away with messy books on the sofa easily if you have the art hanging above the sofa..... since the focal point will be the art.....

Apartment Therapy - Good Question: Color Scheme

You can see lots of similar architecture in Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia. Tiles galore.Unexpectednesss is to find such tiles in a a grocery shop you go in to buy toothpaste, or a sneak peak under layers of grime in a motorcyle repair shop.

Getting lost in Penang is the most fun thing....

That's a classical chinese motive of a LION. not a dog. Some people put a pair flanking their front doors but usually only the rich and influential does that. Supposedly it's traditionally believed to be a dangerous item to put at the main doors because lions are very 'strong/powerful' creatures, unless the master of the house is powerful enough, or else the lions will bring ill fate to the master of the house.

Anyway, I think you can sometimes see these big lion statues flanking front doors of banks and big business in places like Hong Kong. ( but the last time i have been to Hong Kong was more than a decade ago, my memory might have failed me)

Does not consuming electricity automatically means green? In tools that do not use electricity AND use human muscles, it's the human who is consuming the energy. The question would be who uses less?

The thing with folded plastic bags are its kinda difficult to judge the size of the thing after its all folded up, at first i ended up reopening a few to get the size i want for what i want to do.. but an idea is to fix the times of longituidinal folds, so that you end up with a bigger triangle for a bigger bag, and smaller triangle for a smaller bag...

Maybe you can try to imagine where your furniture is going and how much area it occupied?
Once all the furniture is in place, the area that is showing the carpet would not be so obvious anymore.....

I love the colours in this picture. But I think its the flowers that has provided the last factor that makes it " amazing". Is this colour scheme realistic for a kitchen? Probably not, you would have your tomatoes ( red), vegetables ( green) and various coloured items... frequently on the countertop.

Besides... a vase of flowers just beside the stove?.. hmm..

This is still a great photo though. and I like the subtleties...

Not sure if cutting soap with water is an Asian thing. I am an Asian in Asia, and this post is really very intriguing because EVERYBODY dilute liquid detergent with water here in a small bowl, so this post is giving me some ... err cultural insights? It's the stuff our mum/dad taught us the first time we are old enough to do the dishes..... so seeing this actually being discussed is ..interesting..

Other than having fun reading all the design views.. one of the minor fun things I enjoyed from Apartment Therapy is also some of the "cultural insights" that you get accidentally.. It's like the first time I went to US, I discovered " Ooh.. people eat rice with a .. FORK!!!" ( ok, over here in Malaysia, people can eat rice with one's right hand, chopsticks or a spoon, but never a fork.. )

Always like to plant one, but living in an apartment.. I have my reservations... I had a calathea recently but the leave was drooping due to the lack of sun factor.....
