Jan is a male name in the northern european countries.

New potatoes and white (!) asparagus. Don't care for the green stuff, but white asparagus truly is the king of veg.

Some weird arguments here. I assure you, there is nothing to it, it is just another machine in the kitchen. Of course you don't do your folding on the counter. And what noise?! A modern washing machine is not noisy.

Ricotta? Pre-cooking the noodles? No bechamel? Pre-grated mozzarella? Sorry, but I have a hard time taking this recipe seriously.

These comments here illustrate nicely why I won't buy an IPad. Not because I "can't afford it" as the article yesterday suggested, but because I think the close ecosystem Apple is building is a danger to the more or less open structure we see with current computers and the internet. I am amazed how people who normally advocate a do-it-yourself approach to life and technology fall for this friendly, shiny fascism that is Apple.

Wait a minute. MAKE it into homes?! I think I haven't seen a toilet that is not equipped with this for... probably years now.

Agree 100% with lynley. Just because the company claims them to be eco friendly, it does not make them so. How about wearing a jacket or just go inside?!

Get a grip. You are concerned about how your coffee is being processed?! You really think that makes a difference? Insulate your house, get a new heating system, walk or take the bicycle for your way to work, don't buy a new car every other year, try generally to be less wasteful. These are the things that matter. If you are really concerned about water, get a modern toilet that uses less water or/and cut off a minute or two on your daily shower(s). Agreed, this is less glamorous then buying something with an organic label, but it actually might change something. Water consumption of private households in the US is about three times that of other western countries.

Oh, furniture made from wood filled with all kinds of nasty chemicals which will be slowly released into the air. What a great idea!

@eaevansmd: You can't or better should'nt eat unpeeled white asparagus. The skin is stringy and unpleasant. So you have to peel it, where a dedicated peeler comes handy. So it is a bit more work then the green variety, but the result is - in my mind - just far better.

YES, you DO need an asparagus peeler. They are meant for WHITE asparagus, which needs to be peeled. A normal peeler will work, but dedicated peelers work better. Trust me on this, I own several.

Please, remember what pallets are designed for - they have to withstand water, wind and weather and are therefore soaked in all kinds of nasty chemicals. Therefore: use pallets only for outdoor use - and try to paint them, this coating might keep the pesticides/herbicides in. Never use them indoors!

What I like to do is marinate meat in lovage - pork works well, but also lamb or steaks.

I fail to see what is new or newsworthy about this cucumber-machine. How else would you want to pick a cucumber? We have many cucumber fields where I live, in late summer these trailers are a regular sight.

No, no, no. "flammeküeche" it is not an alsatian word - what language is that by the way? - but german, and it is actually "Flammküchle" or "Flammkuchen", which means simply flame-pie.

For pepper mills that not only look good but also work well, I recommend Zassenhaus from Germany. They are great and work - at least in my opinion - way better then Peugeots.

I got one, built it myself because I couldn't find a strip made out of wood. Blades go down. I think it looks better, and the knifes might slip (handle prevents that).
