My mother has her own faux finishing business, and her work is beautiful. There is a difference between sponge/plastic bag do-it-yourself trends and professional faux work. As long as it's understated, and isn't contributing to an overdone "theme" in every room of the house, it looks amazing. If you don't think faux techniques can compliment modern decor, then you haven't seen what a real faux artist can do. It's not all about plaster and kitschy themes.

Thanks kabirh-I'll call them and ask about that. Depending on how much extra it would cost, it might be the best solution.

Jenae here! Thanks for the comments. The problem is my bf and I already bought the unit, unpacked it, spent three hours trying to put it together, almost started WWIII/ended our relationship, then decided it was not worth the time, hassle, or the (relatively small) amount of money. We will probably try to sell it on CL. I don't know what the problem was-maybe it was our crazy uneven floors-but as soon as we got one side assembled, I would try to hold it together while he assembled the other side, yet everything would inevitably fall apart when we hammered in the dowels or moved it at all. I've also thought of buying it already assembled, but I unfortunately have no way of transporting it.

I am getting discouraged seeing all this green. I know home design has cyclical trends just as fashion does, but when I chose my new apartment's colors a couple months ago- green being the main accent color- because I thought it was a little different. I don't see many homes with green...or at least I didn't until now! Now it's even plastered all over the Pottery Barn catalogue :( Oh well, I guess that's the way it goes...

My amazing current dog is a rescue (that would be my #1 vote). I think the whole "which breed is best" idea is silly. Do the research on dog ownership, go to a few shelters, find a dog you like, if you think it's perfect, bring it home; if you think you need a trial run, see if you can foster it. That said, some breeds do have predisposed habits (working dogs need to stay busy, etc.). My next dog will be a rescued greyhound, or any other big dog. Big dogs, in my experience, tend to be lazy and quiet-perfect for an apartment or working person. If I was a LL, I would only accept dogs 30 lbs and OVER-seriously!

I was a senior in high school in Kansas City. We were sitting in math, and another teacher came to the door and motioned for my teacher to come out to the hallway. They talked for a few minutes, then my teacher came back in and told us one of the towers had been hit by a plane. At that point, we thought it was an accident, and he continued with the last few minutes of class. My class after that was current events, so we spent that class watching the live footage on the news, and saw the second tower collapse. We all were just stunned into shock and silence. It was weird to know that we were watching something that would be remembered forever; something that was changing everything. It's rare that you witness something that you know will impact history-even as it's happening. They didn't cancel classes, but nothing much got done that day. It was so surreal to see the terror and watch it happening. I feel for all of the victims families, and it's something that drives me to pay attention to politics and issues going on everywhere.

I agree with meredith...I love the wave bed in green, but it's a bummer my dog isn't the size of a cat.

Please don't bring home a dog, then make it live outside! They are companion animals, and need to be in the house unless you are taking them on a walk/to the park/in the yard to play. OK, off my soapbox :) As everydaydiva said, poodles are nonallergenic, or any breed mixed with a poodle can be good for people with allergies (many shelters have poddles or poodle mixes-just do a search on petfinder.com). There are also poodle breed rescues. The other plus with poodles is that they don't shed at all. I've never had one, though, so I can't comment on their temperament (though every dog is different). You could also do the allergy pill or allergy shot route, or keep the pet confined to a certain area of the house. I don't know if one room would be enough for a dog, but maybe you could keep it confined to just the first floor or the main living areas.
