We want to build a table for our patio on the cheap and maybe this is the solution if I could pick some stools up at yard sales, etc. I could cut them down to table height - I wonder how goofy that would make it look... (proportions are important!) *ponders*

More than how it would look, I worried about how my flatware would hold up. Be sure to look for 18/10 (the 10 is the nickel content). Cheap flatware (from Ross, Target, Kohls, other discounters) often doesn't even have ANY nickel in it (18/0) and won't hold up. We had to bump up to department stores (Macy's is where I got mine I think) before a) we could find the nickel content we wanted and b) we could handle individual pieces and get a feel for them in our hands. We went with Lenox Portola. Happy shopping!

I battle the honeysuckle that lives on our property (it was here long before I was) annually. It can be a real mess. ...having said that, I live in Oklahoma where sometimes it feels like the only thing that will grow successfully is something that's technically an "invasive." It takes a hardy plant to make it through a long, hot, dry summer.

Cast iron skillet + grill press = fewer splatters and nice, flat, crispy bacon! I just move the press around as I need to to keep the bacon from curling.

Probably most of these images are originally available from the Library of Congress. Check out loc.gov to see more great stuff like this. They usually list if there are any known copyright issues. You have various (virus free!) options for downloading images. You can lose hours looking! I blogged about the image I printed for my kitchen: https://1500sqft.com/2013/02/05/tuesdays-tiny-project-8/

We freeze cooked pancakes. A quick zap in the microwave (if you don't mind them chewy!) or a toast or two in the toaster oven and bam! Warm pancakes for breakfast! I usually make extra when I'm cooking breakfast for dinner for just this purpose.

I do this regularly! I learned it from my mom. You can do it in ice cube trays as suggested (I measured - mine create an approximately 1/8 cup sized-cube) OR I sometimes freeze it a cup at a time in ziplock-type plastic containers. It's not something you'd want to drink when it's thawed but it works for cooking perfectly!

Just like @gingerfire and @Katlian - I just spread mine out on a parchment paper lined pan and sort of "flash freeze" them for about an hour, then dump them into a freezer bag. They don't stick together (in my experience.) I used to accordion fold wax paper but it was a HASSLE and I did have bacon stick to that. Happy freezing bacon!

The cheapest way to get plants is from a friend or relative! My momma gave me some hen & chicks that I mistreated horribly but managed to save in the end.

This is the reality than many, many homeowners live - it's certainly how things are in my house - unless you love debt or have LOTS of disposable income, you're not going to rip out a perfectly serviceable kitchen and spend $1 million dollars on a new kitchen. I love some reality in a house tour! Thanks!

Tried it for lunch (with a few tweaks - didn't have Dijon nor did I have an Parmesan so it was ground brown mustard and sharp, sharp white cheddar.) Hubby gave it a B+ and I liked it too! Very satisfying!

I like to do things like a versatile meat that can then be used in a variety of ways. Example? Pork Carnita shredded meat. We (hubs and I) can eat on that for a week (tacos, tostadas, burritos, with eggs, etc.) We cut up toppings (radishes, cilantro, onions, lettuce, whatever) all at once so it's easy fixins for the rest of the week!

We like this version but it's the concept that's important, not the particular recipe:

Another vote for the The Spice House! We visited it on a food tour in Chicago (totally awesome thing to do, btw) and have since ordered various things from them. :) Their "catalog" is really like a cookbook full of descriptions/ideas for uses for each of their spices.

We re-worked the kitchen in our house on the cheap (for less than $1,000 over the course of a year.) We're never going to have a $30,000 budget to renovate it, so we're going to make it work! As always, there is still work to do.

In private spaces, there's a rising trend called "visitability." This basically means even if no one in a residence is currently facing mobility challenges, new buildings and homes are being built to accommodate everyone. You might consider if you're ever going to have a relative or friend with limited mobility come by your place (or, as others have pointed out, you might require a grab bar yourself - I'm 29 and had a wicked ankle break a few years ago...)

I blogged about accessibility, universal design, & "Visitability" just this week! The newest This Old House project is designed to let it's residents age in place.

p.s. there are much less "hosptial" looking grab bars on the market now - rather than removing, maybe consider a swap?
