I have the same situation as mandarinmarie. I have a feeling that all-natural toothpastes are great for those with naturally healthy and resilient teeth. Unfortunately, I'm not one of those people. . .

When I was a kid, my dad painted a cardboard box to be a play oven(including painting a lightbulb inside.) He cut an "oven door" and added some wooden knobs to the front as oven knobs. I heat with wood, with a Monitor stove for back-up, set at 55°. It works like a charm and I can be warm in a half-hour when I want to be! As for using space heaters, that just seems like a lot of electricity. . . There are cheaper and more effecient ways to heat a space. I spent a summer in Spitsbergen, an island north of Norway. There, everyone takes their shoes off- even when you enter the museum, the church, the library, and the shopping mall! Usually there are racks of slippers to borrow while you're in the building.
