I grew up in Winston-Salem as a Moravian, going to church in Old Salem, and still live near by. I've always considered the star to be strictly a Christmas decoration, and never thought to use it as a decorative element. I always believed that the other stars were Moroccan.

They are beautiful in their many different forms... maybe I'll integrate one into my house as a nod to my Moravian upbringing.

Mrs. Meyer's all purpose cleaner works perfectly on my white grout. I've tried all kinds of chemical cleaners, and this works better than all of them. I also have lots of success with plain diluted white vinegar, it's what I use to clean the grout in my shower.

I just did my bedroom in these colors! The palette is mocha, black and white with pops of pink and yellow. I think those accents adds a glamourous but also fresh, quirky feel to a cozy, dark bedroom.

We have a small collection of vintage Franciscan Starburst dishes, which use this combination, and inspired our kitchen decor. I think chartreuse and teal can be both classic and modern.

Evolution NYC sells reproductions of German scientific charts from the 50's, but I don't think you can get them off of their website. Mine is a dandelion cross-section, but they have lots to choose from, from the lovely to the gross. Anatomy of a starfish, anyone?

I have had the same picture on my refrigerator for years. When my husband saw this post, he said "Hey! It's your favorite room!"

I believe it is called a Wooten desk. We have the same one, from a vintage store here in NC. I did some research on it after we bought it (to see what it was worth!) and found that the company is quite old. A lot of the desks that they made are very ornate and antique-y. You can find this model on ebay sometimes, and also MCM oriented online stores . We were very excited when we found ours, and got a great deal on it too!

We have 2 pugs and a greyhound in our townhouse, which has a very small back yard. The pugs don't need more exercise than just running around the house (which they do like crazy for about 10 minutes every morning and evening) and the grey is fine with being walked around the neighborhood a few times a day. Maybe a long walk on the weekends for fun too.

I think both breeds are good for apartments, although I would hesitate to get a pug if you don't have lots of time to train it. Housebreaking is difficult for pugs, and I appreciate having a yard that I can let them into quickly. I can't imagine if i had to take them out of the apt, down the stairs and outside to use the bathroom that we would have been very successful at potty training. We had lots of accidents right by the door when we weren't looking!

The only other negative of either breed is the shedding. I can not overstate the shedding! Both breeds shed a lot, and
I have to sweep and vacuum all the time. Seriously, be prepared, especially in the warmer months.

Other than that, I adore both breeds. Pugs are so silly and funny and snorty and wiggly. My husband says he will never live without one again. And the greyhound is so calm and low maintenance and grateful for being rescued. I don't think you could go wrong with either breed....although having them both in a small space is quite an adventure!
