What's wrong with the turf? In a place like LA, it's certainly the green option. Let's see... if it were real grass, you'd have to pour tons of water, fertilizers, and herbicides on it. I suppose grass could "sequester" carbon if you landfill the clippings, but nothing like the way trees sequester carbon in their wood. A more eco-appropriate choice might be xeriscaping, but really, the space would be far less usable. As you can see from the picture, the high end artificial turfs have really come a long way in terms of realism and are an excellent choice if you can swing that initial investment. My personal style is definitely influenced by each particular space. I love the idea of settling down for good, but I also love the opportunity to put together a new look. Recently, I had a super bohemian look with colorful textiles from all over the world - the place was so sunny that if I hadn't covered the walls, I would have been blinded. The place I'm in now isn't quite so bright,so I've left the walls bare except for one small painting and have a very muted palette of green, brown/gold and black. I can see myself having fun with a mid-century or glam look, and I would like to have something rustic as well. Whatever the style, it needs to be cohesive and site specific. I think this home is just glorious, and though I don't know that I could justify a use of space like this, perhaps it's not that different from having a small house with more space set aside for the yard. I've fantasized before about putting a teak Balinese hut inside a glass box filled with jungle in SF, and I can't wait to have money of my own for experimental architecture. The details of these pictures are interesting too. What's that along the baseboard in the kitchen? How are the feathery circles around the dining room hung? It looks like the gray and purple striped panel in the top picture is a sliding door - it looks odd with the brown and white wall. Apartment Therapy Chicago | Inspiration: Dramatic Paint Ideas |

I heard that even if your money is insured, it might be a few months before the FDIC reimburses you for your losses. If that's the case, even $1000 might be cutting it close. Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | Do You Hide Money In Your Home? |

I like the elegance of Streamline best, though I'm also really curious about Field Day, and I wish the picture showed more clearly what the embroidery is like for the "flower" at the top of each stem. It actually reminds me of a skirt I have, and now I'm wondering what clothes matching the other two patterns would look like :) Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | Thursday Giveaway: Sanford Burrows Sham SetLos Angeles |

Since I don't live in downtown LA (yet), I love coming into the city and spending the weekend eating good food and meeting up with friends. Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | Thursday Giveaway: Colburn Sassaman $100 Gift Certificate |
