I also don't understand how this didn't make it to the finals, since it seems that the people had spoken loud and clear about this. I'm disappointed AT, and wondering why I spent any time voting. :(

I cannot vote on an entry with only one room out of four on display. It is a lovely living room, but would liked to have seen kitchen/bedroom/bathroom.

I long for high ceilings in my apartment. I live in a tiny apartment with 8' ceilings, and though I've gotten used to it, I would still love to live somewhere with more height.

Many small/cool winners and finalists have high ceilings, as do most small apartments featured in design books and magazines. I have a number of design books and have only noticed ONE apartment in all of the books with 8' ceilings! The rest have much higher ceilings. It makes all the difference when looking at and living in a small space.

I used Super White by Benjamin Moore in my living room (which lacks natural light). It is so much better than the beige that came with the apartment. Before the Super White, the room looked super yellow.

@Spacesha: Diatomaceous Earth

Silverfish/Fleas: Diatomaceous Earth (nontoxic for people and pets, natural)

Grain moths/weevils: Add a bay leaf or cinnamon stick to your flour/grains/pasta because these bugs hate the smell but it won't affect your food flavor.

This place is incredible! You have done an amazing job with your limited square footage and I am really impressed with how uncluttered it is with the lack of closet space. I think this is by far the best entry in the small cool contest this year.

Craigslist is an amazing resource if you have the time to be on it constantly (I'm talking the ability to sit there at work and at home and press "refresh" every minute or two). If you are not the first person to email or call a seller, you will miss out on the best furniture deals of your life.

My success story came after weeks of searching for a bed on Craigslist in Denver/Boulder. I would find an awesome Room and Board Platform bed, email the seller a few minutes after the post went up and alas, it was already sold. Then one evening at work, I was searching for the words "modern" and "canopy", pressed refresh and my dream bed was the first posting. A modern, stainless steel canopy bed originally from Desiron for $200. I emailed the person within a minute of the post going up saying I would take it (thinking in my mind that she must have left a zero off the end of the asking price). She emailed me back immediately saying it was mine and that, since I had responded so quickly, she would give it to me for $175. It was the best luck I've ever had in my entire Craigslisting life. a $2300 beautiful canopy bed for $175.

So, it really is a matter of time and obsessively refreshing the page if you want to get the deals on Craigslist.

Brittanykate: I had the same problem and I had to click "view thumbnails" to be able to see all the photos. Otherwise, the slideshow would stop at 11 photos for me too.

Nice house tour apart from the technical problems.

Seems like a regular curtain would be less costly, less time consuming to make, better looking and easier to clean.

Garbage Disposal
Land Line

On my wish list:

Washing machine
Bathtub/larger shower
Radiant floor heating
Better landlord
Large dog/yard

I have been living in an apartment without W/D, dishwasher, disposal, land line, car, television for over a year now and have discovered that I really just wish I had a small dishwasher and a washing machine sans dryer. My boyfriend cooks every meal and I am constantly doing dishes by hand. We also have no car or a close laundromat so we either have to walk over a mile or take the bus to do laundry. We also shower in a disgusting 2' x 2' stall that the landlords refuse to improve or replace which really makes bathing a horrible experience.

Her advice for small kitchens is not exactly what I would do myself. I would keep the dishwasher (there is an in-counter model that can double as a second sink) and ditch the traditional refrigerator for fridge drawers.

I do agree with her that cabinets that end short of the ceiling are a huge annoyance!

I think capowe08 might not like subway tile with dark grout. I think white tile with dark grout looks like crappy 80s/early 90s decor. But I love white subway tile with bright white grout.
