"serious jeans"? Are YOU serious?
Anybody applying the word "serious" to jeans cannot, and should not, be taken seriously.

I think the word you're looking for is "sucker".

Seems like it would take less time to paint (and re-paint when you move) than to do the masking tape route.

The problem with masking tape is that sometimes it's not adhesive enough and it will quickly curl up.

OR, that it is TOO adhesive and will remove paint and leave gummy residue upon removal. requiring a repaint anyway.

So nice to see such a well-designed place that took creativity and resourcefulness, and NOT just a checkbook.

All the wood and plants really help to humanize what could have been the typical cold loft space. Although I imagine that in Chicago it would get pretty cold in the winter with all those windows.

A few questions at the hardware store would have saved you some time and effort. It's best to apply wood conditioner to bare wood before applying stain. This makes the stain absorb more evenly.

kudos for your resourcefulness.
Some interesting ideas here, although the lack of any insulation seems like it would make you feel you were living in, well,.... a drafty barn.

(and yes...we have the prerequisite "love, love, love" comment above. Like clockwork.)

Still waiting for one comments section that doesn't include someone saying...

"I love love love this!"

...as if it were an original thought.
I think I'll have to keep waiting.

PS...now starting the Marshmallow sofa haters club.

um....don't really see anything too special here.
As they said, it's stuff they found on the curb on "big trash night".

Also, WHY is the laptop on the radiator? .....and WHY did that deserve a photo? Is that a "what not to do" photo?

I think they meant "topography of the house" instead of "typography". Would definitely make more sense.

It looks like a thrift store.

In that way...very San Francisco. Like the way many Mission "hipsters" seem to dress these days....whatever mismatched random stuff they find in the thrift store thrown together in a tired "aren't I ironic" manner.

You better enjoy spending all your time at the beach, cos it doesn't like there is much to do in this house other than stare at the walls or sleep.

Refreshingly unpretentious, and seemingly unconcerned with impressing people with some phony DWR catalog showroom aesthetic.

groovypumpkin-

wow, there is an irrelevant dumb strawman comparison: it's better than "a hellish life chained up in a farmer's yard where he was starved and forced to live through 3 freezing Canadian winters outdoors".

It's also pretty awesome that you can read doggie minds from just a photo. Yes, being able to trot six feet back and forth in his cell, devoid of natural light, is probably a dream come true for a Husky.

Man, why do people in small, SMALL, city apartments own big dogs? That dog should be running in a yard, or pulling a sled in Palin country, not moping in a tiny urban cell.
Seems selfish. You seem to be presenting the dog like it's a prize piece of furniture.
