I think the East Coast might be an easier place to make friends, rather than in the midwest or even the West Coast. Do not know why that is. I am a person who does nice things for people, is helpful and interested. But I tend to feel a sense of let down when I know that people have a kind of small town insularity and lack of loyalty that is hard to shake. And when people in places like this can sense you are open to friendship, they get weird as well. Plus, it is harder to hang out and meet friends and do social things when you have a child.

10 Tried & True Tips: How to Make New Friends in a New City

I moved seven years ago to a city where, the minute I put my son in school, the parents began to talk about me. They suspected me of all kinds of crazy things. The city is in Canada and they have very bad opinions about Americans to begin with. I get talked about all the time and they like to make up lurid scenarios about me, even though I have a pretty tame life. One person told me of the one thing they were saying about me, and then a few years later they thought I was both an overbearing American parent and neglectful of my child. Even though I was at school every day for lunch, volunteered you name it. Even people who say I am one of their closest friends seem full of judgment about everything. Or I feel like I am being used. One of my friends woud probably admit to being a bit socially retarded. Anyway, I do not really like the people here too much.hThere is always someone playing a status game, a game of one upmanship and judgment. It gets tedious. I have friends I guess, but they are all a bit disappointing. I know people are not perfect in the US, but there are often one or two cool, open and down to earth folks I can hang with. Here, everyone seems to be ready to attack at a moments notice. Anyway, I give up. I have a great husband and a great kid and a great dog.And friends in other places.

I agree with the person who said yellow. On AT there was someone with velvet yellow curtains-so beautiful, fresh, etc. Also, I hope that white, airy walls will "come back." I am about to paint my coffee table a fresh, yellow. And also, I think a pale, gold metallic. (Another plan of mine, to paint the trim on my walls a pale, pale ash gold) Another extension of yellow... And also- Down With Mid-Century.

Are all the people who comment on AT minimalists? Jeez, I get so tired of hearing how everything is too busy for somebody's tastes. Apartment Therapy show cases a lot of creative, colorful, often out of the box decorating ideas. Is there no one out there who lives on the edge a little?

I love this (living) room! The color, the patterns, the light! The orange, the mirror, the patterns. I personally love a multitude of patterns and colors. I hate that boring, clean lined, mid century crap. I think it is beautiful, stimulating, creative and fun.
