My canon died a few months ago very suddenly. I went to canon's website to check out the specs on my old one for consideration of getting a new one, and lo and behold, the camera was under recall for the exact reason my camera broke. I ended up getting a new one anyway, but I sent in my old one for repair, and am passing it off to my husband. 5 Ways To Recycle Your Old Digital Camera |

Target has the most affordable organic cotton sheets. At one time they were even GOTS-certified. My favorite place for reasonably priced organic textiles is West Elm though. They have a better selection and they are often GOTS-certified as well. Also, check out the Sale section for really good deals. Best or Favorite Organic Sheets, Affordable or Otherwise? Honestly, I ask potential landlords if bank information and Social Security Numbers are strictly necessary. 9 times out of 10, they aren't. I've found that showing a potential landlord a recent credit report is more than fine. Can You Protect Personal Information While Apartment Hunting? | Apartment Therapy DC |

I've heard you *can* put the "pop and click" flooring over tile. In particular, I've heard that cork works in the bathroom, though it may have to be sealed. Help for Heinous Wall Tiles...Used on the Floor? Good Questions | Apartment Therapy New York |

I use vinegar and a toothbrush for my grout. Also, the Mrs. Meyers scrub cleanser is a miracle worker. It can scrub away mildew (so long as the mildew isn't really taking over) and is fantastic for soap scum. Effective Non-Toxic Ways to Get Rid Of Mold in the Shower? We're shopping for our first house in New Mexico, and have come across similar questions. But without a doubt, the "Energy Star" rated new homes are a ways out and are not places where you could reasonably walk or bike anywhere. Sure they came with energy star appliances, tankless water heaters and energy use monitors but nothing else in the house (wood, insulation, paint) was green at all. I personally prefer to use home-made wheat paste glue. I use pastry flour and not only does it hold well and not get sticky, but to remove it you just need to soak it in water and scrub. Book restorers and book binders commonly use it. And it's cheap! A Roundup of How To's Using Mod Podge | Apartment Therapy San Francisco |

I almost never use a disinfectant for anything. I tend to rely on the soap and water method. However, on occasion, I feel like I really need something like this. Disinfect Naturally: Seventh Generation's Surface Cleaner | Apartment Therapy Re-Nest |

I don't think Whole Foods came out on top. I think they just listed the brands alphabetically. As 365 is a number, it was listed first. Home Tissue Products: Which Brands Are Green? | Apartment Therapy Re-Nest |

I use a piece of scrap paper. I roll it the long way, use a working burner to light the end of the paper on fire, and then use it to light the burner that's gone out. I like to keep my hands away as much as possible, so this works for me, and I always have a scrap piece of paper around (junk mail works too!). If you have an older stove that is not self lighting, I'd use something else to light the paper on fire. Matches or a Plastic Lighter to Light a Gas Stove? Good Question | Apartment Therapy Re-Nest |

the FTC is suing a number of bamboo manufacturers because the chemicals used to turn hard bamboo into something soft and cloth-like is not Eco-friendly, like many of the producers of bamboo fibers purport. They say it is no different from rayon, is not biodegradable, and cannot retain bamboo's anti-microbial properties because of the chemicals. As far as I know, there is NO Eco-friendly way to turn bamboo into cloth or other textiles. Thus, these products are not eco-friendly! Hardwood bamboo on the other hand (flooring, cutting boards) are a different matter. Apartment Therapy Re-Nest | Eco-Friendly Bamboo Rug |

I need to go visit my grandparents in San Diego later this month. There's not much I can do to lessen the footprint of the trip, but I bought a relatively eco-friendly swimsuit, and am bringing my trusty reusable bottle and a tote bag for shopping / walking around. I also plan on taking the bus around San Diego -- they have a $5 all-day pass. Apartment Therapy Re-Nest | Survey: How Are You Greening Your Summer Travel? |

I think you could have a pattern so long as it was monotone. IN your price range, I bet you could find a ton of great chairs at ikea. I'd suggest nothing too bulky, and something with clean, elegant lines to coordinate with the settee. I agree with others -- any color you love would work with your color scheme. I think it depends on the type of fly. In a house I recently rented, they had an indoor planter that got infested with fungus gnats. You can do a search online and see if these little guys are the issue. If so, they lay eggs on the soil and live under there for awhile as larvae before they become flies. A lady at the plant store recomended putting sand on top of the soil, which pretty much killed the flies when they tried to emerge. But I think treatments depend on your type of fly... Well, I just used some borax and sugar syrup to kill ants. It is supposed to be pretty safe for cats, unless they eat a ton of it. Other than that, it might be irritating to the skin if you get a bunch on you. Honestly, if you can see the beetles (I've never heard of them either) I'd try spraying the whole thing down with a mixture of dish detergent and water in a spray bottle. The dish detergent breaks down the exoskeleton of most insects. It's often used for aphid control, and growing up we used it when we had bad summers of box elder bugs. It's worth a shot anyway, and absolutely non-toxic. Apartment Therapy Re-Nest | Good Questions: "Greening" It After Extermination? |
