I would love to do this, but in Southern California...It really doesn't rain in the summer at all. The winter/spring time a bit more...and that would work, but other than using the hose in summer Im not sure how to make it work full time? Helpful Links: Rain Barrel Roundup |

Previously to moving into our home, I might have felt the "cartoon jail" comment more pesonally, but our home came with black and white vertical striped wall paper in the dining room and the hallway had black and white diamond pattern. The dining room was also red, being red, black and white said circus tent to me, but after we painted it white, the strong black and white patterns became more comfortable with me. I like the look of the horizontal stripes in the first image especially. Design Inspiration: Bold Black Stripes |

Constructive Criticism as it is called. This is a public forum, but most of the general public lacks courtesy these days. (The downfall of human kind.) There is a difference between constructive and negative. However to be constructive requires thought, not just typing what first comes to your fingers. Maybe try to imagine the person infront of you before you comment, what would you say face to face? Online, with out someone to look you in the eye, it becomes very easy to say whatever you want...So think it through, if it isn't constructive and merely feedback to relieve your own mind, dont say anything. It isn't about YOU it is about the posts, technique and sharing forum that the online community needs to support. You should still be friendly and polite even if you have never met that person in a REAL room :) 5 Things to Take Away from Any DIY Project Post (Even If You Don't Love It) |

While I liked that magazine, I thought Martha's BLUEPRINT was much better. NOW there is nothing like either on the market...So I can't see why one or the other wouldnt be a sucess for a magazine company. Just print fewer..more demand right? Wishful thinking. Well I really like the ceiling because it is unusual..and if it doesnt bother you you should leave it. Personally I would go simple but elegant...and here is what I would do. I would paint the wall that is red a black, and the rest a crispy white...then put books arranged by color on the shelves..or your knick knacks up there. It is the focal point of the room..so if you paint it black the rest of the room wont seem as odd with that ceiling....I think it will emphasize the architectural elements, like the brick wall and the brick around the fire place and will compliment the ceiling well. Simple/elegant. You can't go wrong. Hivemind Designer: What Would You Do With This Wall? |

Call me crazy...but really I like how the wood looks and is distressed. What I would do, personally, is clean up the legs, maybe repaint those, and leave the distressed wood look/peeling paint and seal that...I think it is an art piece in itself and quite a great conversation topic :) best of luck with your choice! **j What Would You Do with This Chair? These sound FABULOUS...BUT can I substitute whole wheat flour for the all purpose flour? Or would that make them just too dense? Thanks! Recipe: Cheddar and Leek Muffins |

Ugh, for me it is the MINT Green kitchen cabinets combined with the coffee and cream tile counter-top and mexican sand tiles. The previous occupants were nice enough to leave before and after photos, and the before, the cabinets weren't even painted...so needless to say, BIG job removing all that paint, redecorate fail. I might be inclined to get the pokey one, but hang it poker side out...once they are inflated, I would still get the idea...admittedly clever ideas..although there seems to be a question of safety involving the curtain that strangles you..just sayin. Obviously some artwork would help. However, I think what the real issue is, is the "oneness" or sameness of color. You are lacking depth. Personally, I like roller shades, bamboo is nice, but to give the room a little height, you could put in some curtains that are ceiling to floor to give a bit more drama. Choose a color like the bright blue dish on your table? or the Orange in the seats? Something to make it pop a bit more. I see you have a light missing from the ceiling as well..find a nice light, maybe something paper? to go with the asian print on the chairs? You just need to cozy this up some. I think just those three things alone will make you view the room differently. Apartment Therapy Chicago | Good Questions: Ideas for Uneven Wall? |
