I recently had a very disappointing experience with attempting to sell a higher end sofa at a very fair price. Seems like any price over $500.00 on CL automatically attracts the scammers and most of them are very clever in their early emails, making it appear that they are local. Once you respond, then the scammer has your email address. Ugh.
Trying to weed out the serious versus not was exhausting. The sofa went to my local consignment store. I won't go the CL route again.
I consider myself to be a very honest, caring, loving and intelligent individual. Just sayin'...

hardly an "urban email rumor", you need to make yourself aware of Target's $150,000. donation to help Tom Emmer's campaign. Although the CEO has apologized publicly, it was, as Patrick(the other one), has pointed out, a terrible and revealing misstep by Target.

Crate&Barrel and Room&Board both use several of the same top US upholstery manufacturers for their upholstery lines, but that said there are still different levels of quality within those manufacturers, which a knowledgeable salesperson can explain. Make sure you're comparing "apples to apples" when comparing different retailer's upholstery products. A piece manufactured by Lee Industries for Crate&Barrel should not be compared to an Ikea piece, as it's not even in the same league. Support US upholstery manufacturers if you can and buy the best, most neutral piece you can afford. You won't regret it.

I find linen sheets, even the very expensive, to be way too scratchy, even after several washings. Proceed with caution and first try just pillow cases, to see if you can sleep on them, as one cannot return bedding once opened and used. This can be a very costly mistake.

"your upholsterer" is going to charge as much for these "easy changes" or for a custom slipcover as it would cost you for a new sofa.
I too am questioning this post.

Professional cleaning is recommended once a year on all upholstery. Have them apply a fabric protection at that time.
I don't understand why most are opposed to maintaining their upholstery investment. It's well worth it!

I have the same issue and I'm having Calico Corners make me a three panel folding screen, in a fabulous fabric from Iman's collection. It just needs to be 84" high in order to completely block the door frame from sight.
One could also DIY pretty easily I'm sure.

Zippers on sofa cushions are NOT for removing the covers, but simply for replacing the foam cores, if need be.
All professional cleaning shound be done in the home with all cushion casings left on the piece, usually as instructed.
There is always a risk of shrinkage, even with dry cleaning, when you remove the cushion casings.
Professional cleaning is a nominal fee in order to maintain your sofa investment.
**and regular vacuuming does wonders!**

Having a professional upholstery cleaner come into your home is ALWAYS the best solution. This is not a DIY project. The manufacturers of all sofas recommend that you do this once a year, to protect your investment. I don't understand why so many consumers are not willing to do this. A white sofa could stand professional cleaning every six months.

Umm, Crate & Barrel doesn't just carry Lee Industries. Where did you get that from? The styles shown are from McCreary Modern and Shenendoah, which are very good quality manufacturers for the money.
Although Lee is a very high quality manufacturer, their pricing is also much more on the higher end. It has nothing to do with Crate & Barrel's markup.
You get what you pay for people.

I'm not sure I get the point of this. Considering that 95% of the population shops for their homes through these same reatail stores and catalogs, I guess it's the mix that's noteworthy.
If you're comparing these rooms to client's homes where you've acquired everything from the Design Center and antique stores, you need to get out more. We get it, but that's such a small percentage of the population, who can still hire a decorator, that the point here seems lost (at least on me!)
The rooms are very nice, though.
