Gluten free/vegetarian recipes for beginners. For instance, I am a vegetarian but interested in eating gluten free, but have no idea how to start! Also, I don't have too much time for cooking from scratch. It'd be helpful to learn some quick and easy go-to recipes.

Where can I find that light that's on the wall in the picture? I love it.

I make this awesome hearty soup.... I start with a mushroom or vegetable based broth, add red lentils, barley, sundried tomatoes, quinoa, a little bit of pasta shells, and sauteed onions. It ends up turning more into a stew, which is also fine, but the flavor is amazing and there's so much fiber that one bowl will fill you up!

Every major family event, including cousins, aunts, and uncles, we all make Italian spedini. It's a long process so it really forces the whole family to help prepare. We have the raisin cutters, the parsley snippers, the meat tenderizers, the bread crumb makers, the bay leaf placer, the toothpick putter... everyone has a job, and I'm sure it's what makes the meal more enjoyable!

Mushrooms. I always hated mushrooms. I hated the texture (they reminded me of snails, kind of squishy and slimy, and about the same color), the flavor, and the fact that it was fungus! I refused to eat anything with mushrooms in it. However, after a few years of being a vegetarian, I found myself forced to suffer through many a portabella burger when there was no other option at restaurants. A few years ago, I began actively trying to LIKE mushrooms. I snuck them in to dishes. Kept trying to like them. And then one day-- BAM! I loved them. And now I eat them all the time.

I will also say I had the same experience with vegetable sushi. I thought it was the grossest thing ever and now I can't get enough of it!

Honey Crisp. I am impatiently anticipating their arrival to the fall season.

Also, I had an apple called "Jazz" that was really good. I don't know what hybrid it consisted of or if it was sold anywhere else but New Orleans.

In the off season, I prefer Fuji, but Honey Crisp is like cocaine to me and when it's available, it's all I'll eat forever and ever amen.

I was just saying last week to my friend after eating steam buns together, "gosh, I hope my favorite blog posts a recipe on how to make these!" Question: is there a way to steam them without having a steamer? I have a small kitchn and therefore, a limited amount of cookware that fits in the cupboards. Can I use a pot somehow?

My sister is about to embark on this same adventure in May 2012. We both decided years ago that we were going to do all the food at our weddings non-catered. (or pot-luck.) Keep it simple to enjoy the day itself- and everything made with love. For her wedding, I'm in charge of making dozens and dozens of truffles. Congrats on you preparing well in advance- I hope I can do the same!

I actually don't mind the lack of furniture- I just don't see why it was such a big deal to be covered by a magazine. I'd say probably most people that can't actually afford furniture live this "minimalist" lifestyle, and not always by choice. I think my main "outrage" is that someone is getting so much attention and hype for something so completely average. Go interview someone who lives paycheck to paycheck and applaud them for their simple decor on a budget. I think that's way more interesting.

New York Magazine failed to do an article on me when I just moved in and didn't have a bed or bookcase either. I'm so minimalist. </sarcasm>

I once left a potato in the oven and the oven on overnight, forgetting about it until that "OH SH!T!" moment the next morning. Luckily, the only harm that happened was to the potato.

Also, recently, on my new stove, I guess I accidentally turned the pilot light out... for days I kept smelling gas but couldn't figure out what the deal was. Really glad I'd left the windows open. ::face palm::

Definitely a grocery store, public transportation (no car!), and being near a pharmacy is nice in case you're sick and don't want to walk far.

I put my bread in a plastic airtight bag, then store it in the fridge. Keeps it fresh for over a week... I don't eat a lot of bread, so it sometimes takes me 2 weeks to finish a loaf, and it's still good!

I just moved to Chicago 3 weeks ago and I'll tell you that many of the apartment listing places show pictures that are not of the actual unit. ALSO, especially downtown, I don't think they lease apartments for that low. you'd be lucky to find a studio apartment in the heart of downtown for a thousand dollars.

I have beens scammed before, so I suggest you rent through a rental agency- then it's legit. I hope you don't wire the guy money- he definitely will take it and run. Some deals literally are too good to be true.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this guy is a scammer.

I couldn't find a good place for my price range in the city. I moved to Edgewater and my apartment is fantastic. I suggest going a bit further north than downtown to find good apartment rentals that won't break the bank.

That bed in the corner... how can I get that to be mine? Where is it from? Is it actually from the store? I looked at the site and couldn't see anything that said they sell furniture.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I always throw it out if it's a day or two past the expiration date- even if it smells fine. I've experienced spoiled milk and gross!-- I'm not risking it again.

My bedroom is not for guests. Usually because it's messy and I'm embarrassed- piles of laundry needing to be put away, unmade bed, etc. Also, I want my room to remain my own space, you know?
