Yes, the last 3 years with the Release the Krackin' event at various Whole Foods. I love it best when they hollow out one half of the shell and make a pasta dish directly in the wheel remnant. Love this event!!

If you are going to play with it know that it absorbs A LOT. So use 1/4 of quantity of what you would use with wheat flour with an addition of some moist binder like eggs, flax/water, chia/water, etc. Have fun playing and do check out the paleo recipes for some inspiration.

I miss our pineapple plant. We were growing one like this for a couple of years and had to leave it behind when we moved from Miami to Colorado. It would not have fared well here though.

There are so many gently used items of high quality out there. I bought our BOB for $100 at an REI garage sale... the reason it was returned was a little bit of the grip foam on the handle was missing from the underside. That was it. I also am a fan of the consignment sales, my fave one is in a community where a lot of parents are conscious of high-quality, organic items. I bought many things along the way for our first and kept the list of must-haves pretty minimal. With #2 on the way I feel like I have this in the bag with doing it economically and green.

I use Blurb for the big project keepsakes (e.g. our wedding week images, our son's first year) and Shutterfly for random small gift books to send to family that does not live near us from time to time.

We have it easy here in Denver to celebrate - there is the annual Marade (March/Parade/Rally) that begins at the MLK Jr. Statue in City Park then makes it way down Colfax to Civic Center Park. A lot of community groups come out and it is a great experience for the kids to be part of. Will be pushing my son in his stroller again.

I did a #365photo for the first year of my son's life and plan to do the same for our second child that we are expecting in March. I used my DSLR and phone to document moments in that first year then compiled the images in a blurb book. People say "they grow so fast" and I use the 365 to capture that first year of such drastic changes.

I go with the kitchn's sugar cookie recipe listed above. My only deviations are reduction in sweet and sometimes I'll mix in whole wheat flour. It is a kick butt recipe.

I had a friend write a printed column about a year ago touting why he always RSVPs as a non-committal maybe - in case he makes up his mind at the last minute. His piece infuriated me. I hate that disregard to the planning process for the host is commonplace. I too have this peeve about lack of commitments with RSVPs.

I love this holiday and I am a tgiving vet. This year will be a heritage bird (omnivores), some vegans, some gluten-free. There is overlap with all three groups. I use as much local and as much of my own harvest as possible and try to keep the menu minimal so that there are not wasted leftovers. I am working on the menu now. For the vegan, gluten-free person I am looking at a chickpea fillet modified from the post-punk kitchen site. We did a 50-mile tgiving a few years ago, this year will not be that extreme so that we can have cranberries involved.

You can get Unreal Candy which is the GMO-free, "good stuff" version of Snickers and all of those. After going to a birthday party last year where the pinata was full of high-cost raisins and organic goods then watching the kids give my toddler all their loot I decided to be the house giving out fun size mainstream junk. It went over very well - I also have the organic lollis for kids with picky parents or food allergies so they are not left out.

Meal planning can be daunting and to get my husband involved I had to take several steps back by asking simply what foods he liked. I wrote a post on the process http://bodhibear.net/2011/01/meal-planning-with-my-mate/

We weekly plan after a weekend meal with calendars and weather forecasts out in front of us. We keep it flexible to juxtapose the meals we pick for the week. This system serves our home well.

I was really lucky with our first son to know some fabulous cooks. He was born in June when it was already hot outside and my most memorable meals were a slow-cooked pork butt with black beans and chile topped with sour cream as well as an awesome collection of chilled cucumber soup and various grain and veggie salads that came in leftover yogurt and glass containers.

On the giving end I go for grilled lean proteins with grilled veggie and spring mix salads, fruit salad, and cornbread madelines as a standard. I have recently also done slow-cooked carnitas with corn tortillas, quinoa salad and fruit salad.

Fried Green Tomatoes. A family friend took me back east to hang with her Southern family. Their family matriarch made fried green tomatoes and I was not feeling them. I was forced to sit at the dining table for over an hour after everyone finished eating until I finally sucked it up and ate them. Only I had psyched myself out so badly that I immediately threw them up. I was 8 and by adult standards a rude guest.

A few years ago my hubby and I stumbled on an easy, great road food concept. We kept buying pre-cooked boil in bag grain pouches of rice and quinoa as well as legume pouches like Tasty Bites. We put them on the dash of the car to "cook" while we drove and dressed them up with some cilantro, lime and random veggies we kept in the cooler. This worked well for lots of meals with re-stocking at Trader Joe's, Vitamin Cottage and Whole Foods. We also packed a camp stove for hot cereal and water for tea or coffee to have with fruit and other treats we picked up from farmers markets on our 3-week journey.
